I have a 2006 base GP but it does have Monsoon. It has the 6 disc changer. I've been noticing the radio randomly going into scan mode while driving. I have also been near the car while it was off and heard static coming from the speakers intermittently. But the biggest problem that I've had is that sometimes the battery will go dead overnight. I decided to pull the radio fuse and I haven't had the battery go dead overnight on me since. So I think the battery drain is being caused by the radio. I have a Kenwood CD player laying around so I figured I'd just toss it in but it looks like maybe it's not that simple. I know that the stock radio is responsible for the warning chimes and making the date in the DIC work but I really don't care about any of that stuff. The car is just a winter beater and all I want is to be able to listen to music on my way to work. I pulled the stock radio out and there are two plugs that go into the back of it. Can anybody tell me what they do and tell me what wiring harness adapter I need to make it work? Is the smaller plug for the amp? Again, I don't really care about the warning chimes and I don't really care if I lose the amp. All I want to do is get a working radio back in this thing as cheaply as possible. Or would I be better off to go junkyard diving and just get a factory replacement radio? Thanks in advance.

I have the same problem when battery is going bad like it does every year, the first thing I do is pull the fuse so monsoon doesn't count all six CDs every time I start up. I have to admit I love not having the extremely loud, battery draining, and annoying door chime and would like to disconnect that without disabling radio.
I don't know if best buy is still open amid the CV panic, but those audio guys can tell you exactly what you need and then if you don't like the price you can buy it online elsewhere.
I have a good experience with most junkyard parts except the audio stuff.
