I've got a 1998 Grand Prix GTP I just purchased from my brother in Texas. I already have a '98 SE, so now I have 2 gold grand prix!

Anyway, the GTP won't start. Most of the time (when you turn the key forward to try and start it) the GM alarm box thing under the driver's dash just buzzes. Im not sure if the box itself is bad and I need a new one, or if something else is to blame.

The car didnt want to start and did the buzzing thing while I was running arrands the other day - I kept trying and eventually made it home but I have never been able to start it since. Maybe somehting is not used to the cold Chcago weather? (spent most of its life in Texas)

Also, a few days before the car died the remotes stopped working. After that I notice that the remotes work ONLY from inside the vehicle.

    Any ideas guys?

    1. try swapping batteries in the remote
    2. check you car battery voltage
    3. possible passkey bypass issues?

    1. It happens with both remotes (only work from inside of vehicle)
    2. voltage/battery is good.
    3. Possibly, I will try googling it

Wow the passkey bypass looks pretty complicated.

Does anyone think thats the problem before I spend hours researching passkey bypass?

possibly, i'm still trying to diagnose, I'm not sure of this buzzing sound. Try disabling the alarm and see if the problem persist. Here is a link on how to disarm it:

I believe there are some instrustions in the owners manual also.

    thanks

Thanks a lot for looking into this for me.

The instructions say for a 99+ GTP, will it still work with my '98?

I disabled the alarm and the car still doesnt start.

I took apart the alarm box and the 3 black blocks (say THAILAND on them) on the circuit board is what buzzes when I try to start the ignition.
