Thread: Replacing 2006 Grand Prix with Monsoon system rear speakers.

Hi,
looking to replace the rear speakers since they are blown. I have read up on this and realize that Pontiac sends 4 wires to the rear, two for bass, two for tweeters. Trying to find a cheap way of fixing this. I was thinking of putting two cheap speakers for bass in the back with the bass wiring and cutting a hole beside and putting in two tweeters. Would I have enough wire for this or would i have to make it longer? I'll link the bass woofers and tweeters. I'm canadian so the infinity system is quite pricey that is the complete system.

I realize that this is a pretty junk system but the car is getting long in the tooth and dont have much money at the moment.

you need to find the same ohm speakers and install them, nothing else will sound right. no the right ones are not cheap. even used can be a bit pricey.

or you buy a new HU, and run all new speaker wires and then you can run normal speakers.

So if I install a new head unit should I put in another amp, or is it not needed in most cases?

Is what you should buy. Don't cut holes, they sell adapters to keep the tweeter on top.

If I were to just buy a new amp, most say 4 or 5 channel Max. How do I still use all 7 speakers. Will I be able to?

You have "7" speakers, not 7 channels. The monsoon system counts in an odd way. Left rear, right rear, left front woofer, left front tweeter, right front woofer, right front tweeter, dash center channel.

In an after market system this would typically be considered a 5 channel system, but due to how the monsoon is wired they count it as 7.

Now, if you are going to replace the entire system, be warned, you will be best served replacing the wiring all around as the wiring for the monsoon system is very thin/cheap and won't handle a real system very well.

Many people when replacing the whole system remove the center channel. I actually enjoy the center speaker but to each his own.

I've got infinity kappa 6x9 that are wired to work with monsoon if you're interested.
Uses the same factory connector.
