hi guys, first time posting here.

I'm looking to replace my head unit with a single din blue tooth aftermarket unit like an alpine or something. I am also looking at replacing the rear deck 6x9's as i believe they are blown. so my questions are....

what kind of wiring harnesses/trim kit would i need to make sure the steering wheel stuff still works. I dont care about the onstar unless its really easy, and from what im seeing online it might have a factory amp "bose or monsoon" i'm not sure if it has either. I've seen tons of take apart the dash videos to get the stereo out but no one talks about the wiring harness or splicing etc.... needed to put a new one back in or change out the speakers.....

soooooo i'm sure ya'll have done this a thousand times so i appreciate the help!

    Thank you!

If you want your DIC date to work use Scosche GM06B and keep your old radio in the trunk. Other options are the AXXESS GMOS-01 for the wiring harness with the AXXESSASWC-1 for the steering wheel control. Another steering wheel control option is the PAC SWI-RC. I didn't really like my PAC steering wheel control box, so I would stick with Axxess stuff. Also the Axxess AXOTG1AN makes programming the ASWC-1 a little easier with an app thru your phone. Your actual radio (like FM 106.3 or whatever stations) stations will go to crap unless you buy a Blaupunkt brand. At least that's what I was told by a professional installer when I asked why my Kenwood wouldn't get very good stations. I didn't really care since I was using Pandora anyway.

Do you have a center dash speaker? If so, you have the Monsoon system and have an amp mounted in the trunk under the rear deck. This will depend on what speakers you get. I use Crutchfield.com to choose what to replace stock speakers with. It allows you to pick whether or not you have Monsoon. The wiring harness you get will need to be spliced to the new head unit wiring harness. Get the harness that retains factory chime. The colors will match up. Just use butt connectors or male to female ones if you want. Some people solder them and then shrink wrap them, but I haven't found it necessary. I've replaced head units and speakers in all 3 GPs I've had so far. One was Monsoon and 2 were not.

Thanks guys, I don't have the center speaker/monsoon. I'm gonna just look for a cheap alpine or something that does bluetooth so i dont die trying to talk on the phone. I was just really hoping there wasn't going to be too much cutting/splicing of wires, sometimes ya get lucky and it's just a couple male to female adapters the antenna and everything is all good haha. Thanks guys both of you , i have a starting point now with good advice. If i run into more troubles i'll post and when i finally suceed adn get it done i'll post too

This thread's rather stale, but most people have recommended the AXXESS wheel controls.

The steering wheel controls are separate from the harness behind the stock head unit, if that's what you're asking.

No. You always needs a steering wheel controls harness. Use the AXXESS ASWC-1.
