I've been scouring the web all morning and haven't had any luck. Most diagrams don't include the Bose system and the harness coming out of my car has striped wires that are not mentioned on any diagrams that I have seen.

My car currently has an aftermarket JVC radio installed shoddily by a previous owner, and although it has the Axxess steering wheel control box, that's not working so I'm trying to diagnose the wiring.

Here is a picture of the harness coming from my car:

Here is my Axxess controller for reference, I believe it is the older model:

im sure if you were to tape all that tape off you find some crappy connections with dull tarnished copper wires. id start by taking them all apart and then cut the wires back till you see clean shinny copper wire, then solder and shrink tube the connections.

Thanks guys! The schematics are helpful, and I have been putting off a proper re-wiring of the radio but I suppose it is inevitable. I think Best Buy did the install for the previous owner so that probably explains a lot.

Bronco, I see you have your Axxess grounded into your main ground but I read on the Axxess instructions that that can cause programming issues in certain cases. Perhaps I could also try tacking that wire to some metal in the radio compartment. Do you have the newer USB firmware upgrade version of the ASWC?

I bought and installed the SWC almost 7 years ago; hooked it up as per the instructions and it worked. Haven't done anything else to it since.

I'd do what scotty said. That tape job looks like crap. Best Buy should be ashamed of that quality of work.

Bronco, looking at your harness picture, I just noticed that with my car whoever put in the SWC had installed it into the wires coming from the car, not alongside the harness as you have done. I'm rewiring the harness so I will be putting the SWC in exactly as you have it.

Also, a question: I noticed you don't have the brown/white or brown wires with the 1/8" audio plugged hooked into your harness - does the 1/8" plug from the SWC hook directly into your radio?

Good thing a professional shop did the install. LOL

I bought a stereo that had the 1/8" plug, so plug-n-play for me.

Lucky lol. My car takes the yellow/green wire on pin 14.

    Using these sources:
    http://community.crutchfield.com/car...-out-my-wiring
    http://crutchfield.custhelp.com/app/...tail/a_id/7091

I was able to confirm a lot of my wiring. The factory radio makes use of a second harness with a pink wire that apparently switches on the amp (Labeled "REMOTE" on the wiring diagram). This is hooked up to the blue/white wire on my radio (It was like this when I got the car, but now I understand why). I don't know why the poster in that thread mentions splicing the pink wire into the "red ignition/switch wire".

Now another question: according to the wiring, pin 3 is a "power antenna", however there is no wire going into this pin from the car. I'm thinking that function is one of the other wires on the second harness. I would imagine the blue/white trigger wire from the radio would turn that on too. Is there any way to test which wire would control that? Maybe splice that wire and the pink so when the amp is turned on so is the antenna? My radio reception has always been really bad.

Our GP's never had a power antenna option, so that would be why there is no wire. Put a voltmeter on the blue/white wire and turn the radio on. Not sure where you are going with this, cuz if you don't have a power antenna, nothing will happen. This will not help with reception.

I forget where, but I read that the power antenna had to do with the antenna embedded in the back window glass.

Really? Strange. Antenna's don't need power. Must be a GM thing. LOL

That makes sense, oh well I won't worry about that. There's another loose cable coming from the car that I'm not sure about. It's the guy pictured below, kinda like an antenna cable but smaller.

That's the antenna. You need an adapter (Metra #40-GM10) to connect it to an aftermarket radio..... https://metradealer.com/api/vfg/view-product/id/40-GM10

That's funny, there is another cable that is similar to this with a larger connector that was plugged into the antenna plug in my aftermarket radio...

So I have no idea where the other "antenna" goes but I'll see about getting the proper one plugged in.

Well, the wiring is much prettier now, and all correct, but the steering wheel controls STILL don't work. Gah! An Axxess support tech insists that at update to the device won't fix the problem. Oh well, I guess.

I just popped in a new passenger side front speaker I got off eBay, and I'm getting a hissing from that side. Time for some more wiring diagnosis...

I think I've got what I've need, Bronco Boy had some schematics and I found some radio harness diagrams online. You don't mind if I store away your offer until I may need it in the near future? Lol
