6.5" Polk in door

I removed the bose 5.25" from the black plastic mount. I modified the plastic to fit the speaker. only problem is the door panel hits the speaker surround when installed. I read on here people fit 6.5" with no issue any ideas what i am doing wrong?
My next step is to get rid of the black plastic and make my own mount to recess the speaker into the door further as long as it doesn't hit the window.

I had little to no clearance in the back between the window and the magnet so I don't know if you will have room to go back. My particular speaker was very very close to the door panel as well.

I will have to keep adjusting to get it to work but right now i will definitely damage the speaker if i leave it the way it is.

You didn't cut the plastic down enough. Remember its a custom fit not a factory replacement.

Thanks for the link, i was thinking of trimming the door panel like person did. I need to get back on this project cars been apart for a few weeks now.

I have Polk Audio components in my doors... I trimmed the factory speaker bracket to fit the Polk in and then I lightly dremmeled the opening in the door where the bracket bolts down for clearance. Fit like a glove when I was done and no interference with the door panel. I did put some fat mat, similar to dynamat, but way cheaper, around the door to avoid rattles.

Going to work on this again today. Where did you put your crossovers? I was hoping to hid them behind the door panel but seeing as it fits so tight i dont think that will work.

I did fatmat on my SVT, on the GTP i bought kno knoise kolossus based on diycaraudio.com review on a bunch of CLD tests.

I wanted to put the crossovers in the doors or behind the panels also but I didn't see any way feasible for space or moisture. I made an amp board for the trunk and mounted my amp on one side and mounted the crossovers behind the board. The board is mounted on the seat frame with the amp facing out. You would never know the crossovers were behind it. I hid almost all of the wiring. I am going to change amps soon so I am going to rearrange things.
