Hiya, new obviously to the site.

Just bought 2008 Grand Prix GP (Base edition) last week. Stereo is nice for a factory (non-monsoon) edition, no onstar or anything.

But, obviously I am looking to upgrade.

I am thinking on doing component speakers in the front. 6.5" woofers and 1" tweeters of some sorts.

6x9 3 ways for the back.

For the head I am debating on the doing a double din option or the regular way and debating between a selfpowered base tube and a regular pair of 10's in a box. Thus I would also be debating on the amp usage if using one at all.

I am not looking to blow my ears or anyone elses, just good quality sound with a little edge to it when I feel the urge. As I am a graduate student I also am not looking to take out a small loan to do this.

Any recommendations or warnings on future problems would be appreciated. I have installled previous equipment on other cars (2003 eclipse, 98 Jeep) so if there is any obstacles in that respect I would appreciate a warning there.

I have heard of problems with the HUD loosing the calender option and all that jazz, also loosing door and warning chimes.

    Appreciate it.

I have the same car and paid about $1500.00 tops on my system and i'm impressed and like it alot. It's not finished yet but you can see the HU,components, subs and amps that I use.

Did you have any options lost or problems with the HUD when you put in your receiver? Use a standard adapter and all?

I didnt use an adapter. I ran my ignition to the fuse box and constant to the battery. I used the ground cluster thats up and behind the radio. I lost the date and chimes which doesn't really matter to me. If you want to keep your chimes you need a $60-$80 adapter which i'm sure theres part #'s on this forum for that.

I have no experience with the type S but I have heard alot of negatives about them. Others might tell you different but I truly don't know
