i know where the speakers are and what size but i have no clue how to get the plastic cover off without breaking it . i figure since i have the use of this forum i might as well ask before i break the covers . . please help . are they just simple pop offs or are there some hidden bolts or tabs i need to remove first ?

you dont get the plastic covers off they are stuck in, Believe me as much as I switch speakers to find one I like, I tryed to find a short cut. You have to take the rear package tray off, and almost all the time the back seat, especially 97-03's.

    Removal rear cushion:
    1. Pull cushion release tabs and remove cushion

    Removal rear seat back:
    1. Remove small nut on each side of bottom
    2. Remove large nut on each side of bottom also holds seat buckles
    3. Top is just held in by hooks. Pull bottom off of mounting bolts and lift to remove

The package tray then needs to be pulled up slightly and then it should be able to pull out. Boom and you can get to your speakers.

I took everything apart with the help of my little brother, little did I know where he put all the clips/bolts so I'm currently in the process of figuring that out until next weekend... so I've been driving around like this-

Had to do little cutting to this bracket to get the new speakers to fit in the front, I had to cut the backplate of this bracket out...

Good news - the above PDF helped me along, but the process is indeed different for the newer models. In the 04-08s you've got to deal with the C post trim and a few more screws securing the seatback. I took some pictures with my phone during my install, and I'd be happy to do a writeup if there's any interest.
