    Installed new pump.

    Sat on jack stands bleeding the system for close to an hour.

    Drove around for about 50-75~ miles.

    Noise is worse. Not sure if there is air still in the system (I'm assuming because people say the Magnasteer system holds air quite a bit making it difficult), or...I got a sh1t pump from O'Rielly's.

    Who's bled this system...and is there a legit way to get through this process, because due to pump location...are people removing the fluid reservoir and running a line from it and capping the other side?

    I'd like to get this done over the weekend. Thanks peeple.

    theres no real bleeding im aware of for just a pump. its a rack change that really needs to be bled.

    typically its wheels off the ground, car off, turn lock to lock 15 times its done.

    It should not take an hour to bleed the air out of the power steering system. WHen I changed my pump, it only took about 5 times turning the wheel back and forth with booth front wheel off the ground to get the air out. The fluid will be foamy, I had to let it set for about 30 min to let the foam go down, then I repeated procedure and all was quite. The first replacement pump from AZ was very noisy and I and to change it again with a warranty replacement. Even the replacement for the replacement was not without faults, the high pressure hose connection inside the pump was very rusty, I had to wire brush the rust out of the hole, and had I not looked before connecting the hose I would have had problems, this leads me to question the quality of the pump supplier to the retailer.

    I just figured the LS4 wasn't the same as the 3800's, didn't know if anyone had done that recently, or you were just referencing your 3800's.

    ive changed many p/s pumps, never had to bleed just a pump. unless it ran empty. then you need to bleed it out. as long as the lines have fluid, rack is full. the pump is self bleeding, you just fill it up.

    Hello guy, I kind of having the same problem. Just replaced the pump and the new one is louder then the one before. I also replace the water pump and a idler pulley.

    does the steering wheel have power to it? like you can turn the wheels easy in park at idle? the pump is full of fluid as well?

    if you have power theres always a chance you got a bad new pump. reman pumps this is more common then a new one of course.

    Its also a high probability your lines are compromised somewhere.

    Change the pump again. Some rebuild pumps are noisy.

    Thanks guys for the answers. The steering working normally, I got full power and there is no leek any where. My new pump is a A1 Cardone and two different person today tel me that they got problem in the past with this reman pump. What pump should I by? Should I go with a Brand new GM original pump?

    Yup, after three autozone pumps I got a new GM one.

    Hi guys,
    Noise can only happen if there is a bad bearing, (all our bearings are NEW), if there is NO lubrication (assuming the correct type and amount of fluid was used) or air in the system. Almost all the issues we deal with on noisy pumps have to deal with air being trapped in the system or being created internally by a restriction.

    Bleeding the system is absolutely necessary. Check out this 2min video we recently put together on the process. http://youtu.be/ts6vX8csaTA

    OK Mr. Cardone, you're right about bad bearing. Why a pump will be noisy if it been rebuilt with new components? I also assume that you know your power steering pump better then me so even if the pump is still noisy and there is no air bubble after bleeding the system several time, I will give your pump every chance I could so I bought a Vacuum pump today. As soon as I'll try the vacuum method, I will let you know guys if it work or not. If not, I will install the AC Delco pump that I've just received last Friday.

    I went through 4 reman pumps before I found one that would actually make my power steering work.

    i bled mine today as well, since i had to replace and subsequently modify my lines and add real cooler to the system ive had a rough spot while turning left. tried all the normal procedures till i tried again today but turning lock to lock withe car on theres a mechanical limit and slighty pushing a little moore youll hear the pump using full power to pump the fluid, i manage to get quite the amount of bubbles in my steering resoivoir.i did this about 15 times a side and im finally good to go.

    Hello guys. I've been trying to bleed the ps system for the past week but even if there was no air bubble in the reservoir, the A1 Cardone was still winning so today I just replace it by a brand new AC Delco pump and it took me 10 minutes max to bleed the system and now it is running all smooth and quiet.

    ps: I know that the ps fluid is dirty in the video. I flushed it after the video. I didn't want to flush it before the replacement in case that I drop some contaminant in the system when doing the job.

    theres no bleeding for a pump change, the problem was the crappy bearing in the cardon pump.

    only time you need to bleed the p/s system is if you changed the rack. cause the rack is dry.
