    Trans cooler.

I know the TEP is the top dog, and it's about $225.

Any other transmission coolers out there that would work...I didn't want a small one in the $30~ range because I'm sure they don't do much of anything.

I was looking at this one: http://www.amazon.com/Hayden-Automot...D2GJVS54WD0YBK

    Thoughts?

    Cheers? Kick in the nuts?

Tell me why I shouldn't buy that and just get the TEP, lol.

Well all the research I've done on trans coolers points to a kick in the nuts lol. Majority of the members say it's pointless to get one due to the fact that our transmissions don't fail because of heat but because they are weak as hell. ZZPOOP claims tranny coolers take away some HP. IDK and IDC cause I'm not using one. A tune definitely keeps the tranny temps down tho

I think heat weakens things. So I think it's beneficial. And I don't beat on my car but I don't like it getting hot. Losing hp with me. Not a care since I'm NA anyway. Still would probably add one no matter what. But anyway. Nick did you compare teps specs to this one because that's what I would do and just get a comparable Hayden one

I would love to hear ZZP's explanation for how a trans cooler costs horsepower.

FWIW my buddy did a trans tune on his brothers ls4 gxp couple years ago and it has yet to break...they drive it hard and it has been fine so far...I think a trans cooler would be a benefit no matter who you get it from....and yes would love to hear how you lose hp thats strange

So basically user error is why they don't recommend trans coolers? LOL

That is no different than people bashing oiled air filters. Less than 1% of all oiled air filters have caused MAF problems and of that less than 1% were caused my filters straight out of the package. The vast majority of the issues are caused by people overoiling their filters when they clean them, or oiling them out of the package when they come pre-oiled.

Yeah, but these LS4's get much more heatsoak than the 3800's do.

I never had a cooler on either of my 3800 cars, but 200*~ temps kinda scare me.

I had an hour long road trip then sat in traffic and hit 212 that is high and scary enough for me that's why I'm doing a cooler also

There is a windy mountain road (well lots of them around here) that I was on and got caught behind a slow moving tractor trailer on a high 90* day. I saw over 220*. When I finally got around him and got some air moving through the rad it steadily dropped to closer to 200*, but then I got home.\

I have a cooler sitting here. I need to stop being lazy and put it on already.

The tep one is just huge and has a lot of surface area nothing special.... Plan accordingly and you'll be fine. Shortest lines as possible no hard bends and try to get your cooler mounted vertically if all possible.

Its not that ls4 cars have more heatsoak...if anything it should be less due to the aluminum block and heads we are blessed with over cast iron that 3800guys have. What we have though is horrible DOD funtictions and very ****ty programming from the factory for TCM calibrations. That and our coolant fans can't come on under 192*

I assume you mean with the rows running vertical?

Can I ask why it matters?

Its more efficient to pump fluid that way than the other if you think how the bar plate style are made inside, flow paths etc...

After reading that its really clear to see how full of crap ZZP is about stuff, half the things they say that you don't need in there they make and sell.
