So i am relatively new to the world of actually installing detailed things into cars. but i am learing. Ive ben looking at the cartuning turbo kit for my car and it looks pretty simple to install my self. But again ive never done anything that advanced. what all tools would i need? does the engine have to come out. What is a good way for me to learn how to do these things? I am using this 06 grand prix gxp as my learing car. I know i would need a new tranny with the turbo and am going to order a built one from Triple edge performance.

any advice on this would be greatly appreciated as i am looking to do this after all the holidays pass.

not sure if your pcm is tune able or not being a 06, the 3800 are not. with any luck some smarter will chime in.

if you were to go turbo, you would need a tune for it.

according to cartuning they say that you have to mail them the pcm and tcm for them to flash them then they over night them back. And from what ive been able to find on google people have installed them on the grand prix gxp. i just have never attempted anything this big and am hoping that its not as hard as it looks

but as for guidance at the hobby shop the people that work there kinda suck...they kept trying to tell me my tranny only needed 3 quarts with a pan and filter change...it took a little over 8 to get to the proper level. and some other simple things ive done on my car they just didnt know how to do...and try to get into my way to show me how even when i know how

your looking a a few days easy if not longer.

if you read this thread you'll see that Greg's turbo install took 3 or 4 days to get done, and this is by a bunch of guys who know their way around a engine bay quite well.

i just read through the install part of that and they were doing it on a 3800 werent they? also mine is the ls4 and has a ton more room on the drivers side of the engine bay than the 3800 does...ive looked at videos and pictures of gxp's with the turbo already installed and theres still alot of room left after they were done.

it all just takes time, you need to strip your exhaust down, then install the new headers, plumb the ic, the front bumper cover comes off. lots of stuff to deal with, room or no room. i'd still plan for a few days of down time, especially if your doing it alone, and dont have much experience working on cars.

im sure buying a ready made kit should be easier as all the parts should fit just about perfect.

I know you have a LS4, but I did the cartuning install myself on my 97 GP. Yes they are different engines but for the most part the install will be the same. Click the link in my sig for install pics. Its fairly straight forward but does take a bit of time if you are doing it solo. Overall, I would say its well worth the upgrade and can be installed with basic hand tools.

thank you for that information. i looked thru it. but just out of curiosity do you think that its something i could do with the proper tools...as i have access to a full on base auto garage. and i dont think i would have to worry about tuning anything with the pcm or tcm because on turbokits.com they said that i mail the stock pcm and tcm to them and they do a reflash on them for the tune i believe.

Try to forget about box tunes and see if you can find a tuner in your area.
