My 2006 Gt got totalled out by a jack ass Semi last month. I loved the reliability of the 3800 series III motor, but a month later I cant find anything close to what I had for sale. I noticed a flood GXP on the market, been thinking about buying one. Problem is Im reading horror stories about all kinds of issues with these. Considering a 2006. I want to know what you guys that own these think about them. What kind of milage is on your cars, at what miles did you start seeing problems. Educate me please. Thanks

i personally would stay away from flood vehicles. they could have all sorts of electrical problems. you might get lucky though.

flooded cars usually smell bad, and need a new interior. as well as any electrical problems.

mine got flooded a little bit. so far the abs module went bad, and the drl module went bad as well. being both were under water thats what im blaming for the failures.

also picked up all new seats, front and back. but i did have to take mine apart to speed drying them up so i could use them.

in this case, i took care of things asap, gutted the car right away, pulled the carpet, and hung it up to dry, then dumped a few lbs of baking soda and rubbed it in real good. then shop vac'ed and then shampooed, and it came out clean and no stink.

the car your looking at probably sat for god knows how long windows up soaked, and may even have mold inside it. not a good idea at any price.

sorry, I didn't mean a flooded gxp. I ment there were a lot of gxp's on the market, a flood of gxp's for sale. and not alot of gt's. I was wondering about the reliability of gxp vs the gt. Heard a lot of horror stories abnout the gxp's and i'm tring to decide if I should hold out for the gt or try the gxp.

It sounds like your perception of GXP's with "a lot of horror stories" is skewed. The wink link in all these W series cars is the transmission...the V-8 in the GXP just means that you have to be more vigilant of the trans fluid and filter maintenance; adding a trans cooler is beneficial too.

But once you drive one of these GXP's you'll never be satisfied with a GT

The LS4 is a pretty solid engine, as is the 3800SC. Overall, the 3800 has more parts for it right now for mods but the LS4 is catching up. Trans is the major issue like you said, a little more prevalent in the GXP's due to the higher torque rating. GXP gets my vote as it gets all the other parts the GT does not - sharper looking trim, performance suspension, and that V8 growl!

    Its not just torque.

LS4 made what? 320 ft lbs? L67/L32 were 280. Not much different. Throw a few bolt ons and they're suddenly making similar torque numbers.

With an LS4, the transmission tends to run super awesomely hot.

We also forgot to mention the GXP exhaust fails surprisingly quick.

This is what it looks like when a Semi fails to slow down and ruins your day and your car. I loved this car and was hoping to replace it fast. But the GXP models are all Im seeing for sale. Thanks for the replys on my v6 vr v8 question. I think that if I have to replace my everyday driver car Id rather have the GT. The tranny overheating bothers me along with others saying in the city the GXP eats gas like a thirsty whore, I do alot of city driving. I love the trim on the GXP, the paddle shifter, the HUD, but in my experience the GT was pretty solid with no big issues. I see a few for sale around me but not with my six disc, or the condition the car was in, plus the prices are higher now than a year ago when I bought her. I read the GT was more fun to drive than the GXP, too and I dont know with all the torque how the GXP would handle in the snow. I guess I'll have to wait and keep looking. I will get a GXP someday, but I want my GT back first.

It was like new inside, bought her last October with 70,000 miles for $10,900. Sun&Sound package, was getting ready to add new tires, HUD, and start messing with the supercharger, makes me sick to look at what happened

Personally, I like the 3800sc better with the FWD platform. I get better gas mileage than a gxp, and have wayyy more power. I say if you want a good V8, do it right and get something RWD.

You could always add the little things like HUD, Gxp speedo. Interior trim etc. besides buying my car with the HUD already in it my interior is completely from a Gxp.
