I know there's the K&N option but has anyone tried an off brand/unbranded? I've used a few before in the past on other vehicles and didnt see any issues. Let me know what you think

    Did you read it?

Point is a "shield" isn't going to be sufficient.

You'd need a box or a 4" duct system using hard mandrel bent tubing.

I compromised and went with a ZZP CAI and routed the air from the drivers fog light into that box.

Yeah but isnt the K&N proven to be effective?
The only mods I have are aftermarket mufflers, i dont even know what brand they are cause they were on the car when I bought it.

    I have the 5.3 V8...

    K&N's suck.

    Period.

Proven in their own house to trick you people that don't know.

And mufflers do nothing but give you more noise on these cars.

Link in my signature, give it a read. noaw.

    He's got a GXP.

If you want a box, get a cold air inductions box. its actually closed unlike the KN box.

Didn't really pay attention and in fact the LS4's cramped engine bay leads me to think heat is even worse than a 3800.

CAI Inductions box is pretty boss, liked it for a couple years now...only intake I'd buy for an LS4.

Think you could make your own cold air box out of a plastic garbage pale cut to fit with insulation material stuck to it.
