Re: Turbo ls4 tranny problems
I've emailed Dave. That's where I got my 300m shaft and 7/8" chain. Two of us with 300m input shafts and Kevins turbo have sheared the input shafts. Both the stock shaft and the 300m broke the first time we drove them with tap shift activated. No problem until tap shift. Will I have to give up the tap shift?
Re: Turbo ls4 tranny problems
On that Milzy one.
I wonder if that's the same as the Intense Input shaft. Or if the Intense one is stronger than the 300M
Re: Turbo ls4 tranny problems
I would give up on tap shift for sure, who knows what sort of pressure tables they find in that...
Also, work the commanded shift pressure up from stock in the PCM... If you have already have a stiff valvebody you are going to want to leave the pcm alone for the most part.

I broke the intense shaft. This one is aermet 100 alloy. I did however find another one which is machined for tcc. The Milzy shaft will not support tcc.
Re: Turbo ls4 tranny problems
Yeah, I'm talking with Dave. Both him and Kevin are very helpful. We'll get this figured out and I'll be able to put the pedal to the metal without holding my breath.
Re: Turbo ls4 tranny problems
With all due respect... aside from the team that put together the GMR transmissions for the cobalts..... you are not going to find anyone more experienced with these transmissions in setups over 500whp than ZZP.... They have put MANY of their cars into single digits with 300m input shafts.
Re: Turbo ls4 tranny problems
I'm talking to Dave now, but I don't want to rule out any other options. I got my 300m input shaft and chain set from Dave. He really is pleasant to deal with.

Dave is the man to go to for transmissions, **** what you heard.
I've dealt with Dave plenty of times...probably the best customer service in the business IMO.
Re: Turbo ls4 tranny problems
Personally I would rather have a trans that doesnt explode and bad customer service vs a trans that blows up every 10 miles and great customer service.
Not saying anything bad, but I have just noticed that these transmissions from Dave are meeting similar ends on these turbo cars. I do not have anything to really back that up other than hearsay though.
I can confidently say that I am making significantly more power through a 300m input shaft for the last 8000 miles or so of driving/racing.

So...if you have nothing to back it up then don't say anything negative?
That's just like saying your car makes 600 WHP because you THINK it does, when you have no dyno charts to back it up.
Re: Turbo ls4 tranny problems
What happened to the stock trans for 5 years?

Stock transmission huh?
That's funny...he said he was running a $4500+ built one in the chatbox yesterday when fatboy asked him about it...
But I guess this is all just heresay, isn't it.
Re: Turbo ls4 tranny problems
Well, no, he said that he's been running a bone yard transmission for years without problems, that's all.
Re: Turbo ls4 tranny problems
Well the aermet 100 shaft is on the way, along with a chrome moly pump shaft. I got the last aermet 100 shaft. I wish that I could get a 1" chain set. I would like to build this tranny so that I can floor it without worrying about the tranny breaking.

Nick, you just got done saying this, which is a negative blanket statement... lol

fst100 was having trans problems, one of Daves, he was working with dave but eventually demodded. He certainly didn't have any "smoking gun" to be dave's fault but if it was zzp or any other vendor this would be racked up as their fault.
Dave is an excellent builder, but you can't just rule out any others that may have some helpful information to this guy.

Usually to run 10.5sec, even in his chassis is somewhere near 600whp, he has videos of those runs. He could jump on a dyno and spin out 650whp, go to another one and have it hit 530whp...
Re: Turbo ls4 tranny problems
I really dont need to back up any of my claims... I have plenty of proof of my power level in town, to the point that 600+whp cars that are lighter than me want nothing to do with racing me.
The transmission story with my car is as follows..
Boneyard $40 transmission got me to the 11.00 area for years, put in a built trans a much bigger turbo 2 years ago which added 20+mph of trap speed.
Re: Turbo ls4 tranny problems
Sure hope that this doesn't turn into a flame post. I'm just looking for information and opinions are welcome. Along those lines, I notice that ZZP uses an oil squirter on their differential. Is that less necessary on mine since I'm rwd and not fwd? I've never experienced one wheel spin or torque steer with mine. I haven't talked to ZZP yet.
