So i took a big gamble today and bought some used winter tires off of craigslist.
They were Hankook Ice Bear W300 Error - Discount Tire
The guy had 4 barely used 245/45/18's. All of them are at 10/32 tread deapth and i paid $300 dollars. I can confirm at least for this tire and size that a 245/45/18 tire will fit on the rear 7" wide wheel. Not alot of clearance between the inner side wall and strut but probally a 1/4 inch. So far great tires.

Are you getting snow already up in the mountains? I wasn't plan on swapping to my winter tires for a while yet.

Ya we already had a snow storm that dropped like 2+foot and kept me from working for 2 days.

Was this your first winter with snow tires, or did you run some last year? How are those 245s treating you? I was always told that skinnier is better in the winter so I went with 225s, but after the swap I wondered if just having winter tires period made enough of a difference that I could go bigger. Not that I'll be buying another set anytime soon.

This is my first set of winter tires on the GXP. I got the car in january last year and made it through the winter with the factory Bridgestone RE050 A's. We finally just a got like an inch of snow they did really well. These are the wideset winter tires i have ever owned so once we get another deep snow ill write up some more info. So far im really impressed. Stopping power is amazing and even though they are softer rubber that shorter sidewall still does good when its dry. I was getting a little wandering doin 80 on groved pavement, but i one of my front tires was down 4psi. Might of had an effect. Can give it about same amount of power as i could with my summer tires still on in the cold. So they are grippy. Slightly disapointed in forward motion in snow at first. But i had to think about it, summer tires dont hold back all that power on prepped pavement, how can i expect the tires to grip with that much power on ice or snow lol. I "raced" a explorer that was on the cleared side of the road with me on the snowy side of the road and i was able to accelerrate right with him several times. Thats when i got really impressed even with the width.
