Theres $2500 in parts for a better setup than an L67
Exactly. Nothing beats a 3800 Top Swap in this community IMO...unless your going turbo.

Yeah I thought everyone was driving at the same point, so I just tried to spin it a little differently.

I have alot of miles on my motor wouldnt it be better off to get a full L67 motor with lower miles rather than do a top swap?

Or buy a full L67 and top swap the motor you have..then when you blow it up put the L67 in there with the heads and blower you had already swapped on.

    Win win situation.

As long as it's tuned right your motor will last. These motor are pretty stout except against KR.

no, i meant everything. the motor, the transmission, all the gaskets, fluids, bolts, and other stuff. the 3800 platform is the cheapest platform on the planet and mechanics are money hounds.

    Reading is a valuable skill.

You don't need the tranny, but you will kill it so you might as well get one if you're looking to make power. Also, an intercooler is another thing you would want to get pretty much ASAP. Full size, skip the short stack. Intercooler is another grand on top of whats listed above.

Man bios was right its this shop trying to charge 1300 just for a top swap on my car! Thats ridiculous. Thats y i asked how much do they USUALLY go for; should of put a lil more dettail in that post, but now i see ppl up here where i stay try to squeeze every single buck out of ya. If I did do the top swap would i still need to change out the passenger side axle?

No, you would only need to do that if you were to upgrade to the HD differential.... which is also a good idea actually if you're going to keeping going as far as you can.

if you find the right person or place you can get that stuff cheap. i got a full top swap, a cam, and valve springs for $600. with gaskets and install i put the whole thing together WITH headers for around $1200, but this is considering me doing all the work.

get a TEP tranny, its better than 99% of the tranny's you'd find in any GP. You don't need one, but if you want to keep modding, you'll need one.

Personally I love my GXP, but realisticlly for sheer cost of part and ease of finding 3.8's thats the way to go. Now for my daily driver i love having the V8 rumble.

Yea i think im goin to stick with the 3.8 swap UNLESS i find a crazy good deal on the LS4 conversion set up. I love the way V8's sound too but might just save up money for my next car for the v8 modded car an stick with just a quick GT as a daily driver for now. I heard that its bad buyin trannys from the internet because they can easily mess up when shipping an alot of places with warranties would try to take forever to replace somethin if it goes wrong with your tranny, but that was coming from a transmission shop i think they could of been sayin that just to make a sell....

I would definately get an "internet transmission" from TEP, but not anywhere else. Dave specializes in our transmissions, and I have never heard anyone complain on any forum about his work. He doesn't just throw in some performance parts and call it a rebuilt trans, he does the equivalent of engine blueprinting for your trans too. Like I put in my post, I tossed him my keys on Saturday. Your local tranny shop is probably good at transmissions, but I doubt that they have done anywhere near as many 4t60s and 4t65s as he has.
