    Hello all,

Just trying to decide what to do with my 07 GXP’s exhaust. Presently, I have the 2.5” zzp, stock resonator and, what I believe to be, turbo style cherry bomb mufflers. I didn’t put them on, came on the car when I got it, so again, not sure.

So, I’m trying to figure out if I would gain anything from either deleting mufflers or deleting the resonator.
Here’s a clip of the current exhaust, up to about 4500: GXP exhaust - Album on Imgur

If anyone has any thoughts or opinions, let me know.

    Thanks,
    DPJ

Just realized the clip has no sound, here’s one with it: Exhaust again - Album on Imgur

Removing the resonator will add rasp, you don't want rasp.

Removing the mufflers will add some rasp and just make it louder. There will be no performance gain unless it was trying to blow through a straw with those cherry bombs.

If you are looking for a different sound I would just switch muffler designs/brands.

    Thanks for the reply,
I’ve heard lots of people using the Super 10’s but I’m a bit worried about them being too loud or droney.
But I’ll avoid doing the resonator then, it’s already pretty raspy.

Magnaflow or dynomax mufflers are my suggestion. Nothing chambered on these.

Dynomax super turbos are easily my favorite on any 3800 car.

Again, I’m not sure, but I believe I already have cherry bomb turbo style mufflers. Would those be similar in sound to the super turbos since they are both turbo mufflers or is that just a naming scheme? And I know you said 3800 cars but if it sounds good then it sounds good.

My bad, i skimmed over the GXP part.

They'll sound similar, especially with stock resonator. They do sound better on 3800s than LS4s.

The biggest gain you'll get is from upgrading pipe size, but just changing one piece or another isn't going to benefit much. You have to find the 'bottleneck' in the system, and start there. I believe it's either the cat or manifolds on those cars.

Deleting it all will make it loud, drony, and lose a small amount of bottom end torque, from back pressure.

I second the Magnaflow motion. The oversized tips are a bit ugly compared to OEM, and it is NOT stainless, no matter what any website tells you, but the sound is rather glorious.

So, some kind of magnaflow straight-through muffler or dynomax turbo. And it’s escaped me but, is the in/out size 2.5” or 2.25”? I thought it shrunk down but can’t remember off the top of my head.

I went with the SLP system on my 08 GXP, its very loud and although it fit its really not designed for our cars. The system is 2 1/2 stainless steel, clamps they give you are very nice, but will not work in the exhaust tips and hanging brackets need to be moved. There is no resonator included. I will probably add one down the road, its been on for 1 year now, lots of compliments on the sound. I have the Dynomax on my 04 Comp G, that has drone even with the supplied resonator but fit very well and was inexpensive and there was also a rebate at the time of purchase. Dynomax system is 2 1/4, bit the tailpipe out to the tips is 2 1/2, go figure. I like the bullet tips that comes with it.

I think I’ve already got a healthy amount of drone on the cherry bombs I have presently, and it’s not that I don’t mind it but, at this point, I’m kinda used to it. It’s only annoying when I’m listening to any sort of electronic music and the exhaust will sometimes catch a chord with the music and cause some funky **** to happen. I think I’m leaning towards the dynomax, as I’ve watched some reviews on other cars with some magnaflow straight through mufflers and they don’t really seem to add much volume or anything, so I guess I’ll give those a try once I can afford them. Just got new LED headlights/fog lights and the Oemassive/Akkon headlight assemblies, which look pretty great for the price, really updates the style of the car.
