I have a 98 grand prix gtp. I got it for cheap and it isn't in the best condition. After owning it for a month or so it began to lose power so I took it to oriellys and had it scanned, one code was for the MAF sensor and another had something to do with vaccums. It got worse until my idle pulley seized up and the car wasn't running very well. I replaced the idle pulley and belt with some help and it ran much better. A week later it started gurgling and cutting off when I started it. And that's my biggest issue right now. 75% of the time I start it it cuts off. The only way to make it go is to keep my foot on the gas and then let off and quickly put it into drive and shoot off before it dies. During this period it gurgles and sputters and the display screen says the supercharger is all the way on. After about 30 seconds of pushing it it starts driving normal and the supercharger turns off. I took it to a garage and all they could tell me was that they think the supercharger is broken and it's causing the problems. Charged me $120 just to tell me that. I took it and got it scanned again and got more than 10 codes. The only ones I even began to understand were the codes that said the MAF sensor wasn't working, that cylinder 3 was misfiring and another code that said "multiple misfires detected." And another about the evap system. I can't remember the rest but I still have the sheets at home.
•I am not a mechanic and know little on car repairs
•I only paid 1200 for this car and the interior is crap, so let me know if it's not worth it
If any of you can help me out I'd appreciate it. Thanks everybody

so what you do about the maf and vac leak codes? nothing?

post all these codes. they hold the key to your repair, and the shop you went to (sounds like pep boys) they suck, its not the sc.

those jerks told a freind of mine he needed 3 grand in work and its best to take it to the dealer. i looked at it for 10 seconds and found the intake baffler fell off and that caused his maf and lean bank one codes. they also charged him a buck something for "looking" at his car. f ing joke.

I took it to the shop and they didn't do anything, it was just a local shop but they were recommended to me by my church. I'll post those codes this afternoon. The garage I took it to said it'd be multiple thousands of dollars. Which is ridiculous because I can find an m90 eaton for much cheaper than that. When I first called I asked if they had any workers that knew anything about superchargers and they were entirely unsure. They more than likely just said that to get me to leave. Thanks for the help I'll get you those codes soon

simple check if the maf was a low voltage code, and then you got a o2 code is the fuse blew in the under hood box, #21 marked ING. its a free check. also look for bare or cracked wires on the plug to the maf. bare wires and that sensor dont work any more.

the shop i took my car to for a pre purchase inspection, they said the sc was shot too lol that helped me beat the price down with all the other crap they found.

it needed a new coupler, 40 dollar fix.

You cut the plug off and solder a new pig tail on.

Would the MAF sensor be causing all of these problems? Here are the codes I have:
P1406-egr valve pintle position malfunction(no clue what that is)
P0441-Evap system no flow during purge(my engines always running hot too, maybe this affects that? Idk)
    P1641-MIL control circuit malfunction(no clue)
P0107-MAP sensor circuit low voltage (???)
    P0102-MAF sensor circut low frequency
    P0300-multiple engine misfire detected
    P0303-cylinder 3 misfire detected

Do those help this diagnosis at all?

Im not sure so I just swapped it with one of the spares. There's also this thin hollow tube running from the top of the supercharger that is black and isn't connected to anything

make sure the fuse is good for the maf. then make sure its wires to its plug are good or not. if the wires are bad theres your low voltage maf code. if all looks good replace the maf with a used one from a junk yard. oem works best. aftermarket mafs dont work well in the 3800 world. and used is like 40 bucks. the part# is on the top of the maf.

same for the map sensor, check its wires. if good replace teh map. junk yard parts once again, nice and cheap.

the egr, unbolt it and clean it inside with brake cleaner, should fix it up.

the evap could be the purge solenoid but fix the other stuff first see if it goes away. once again, great junk yard part.

the mil light code means the check engine light is not working, stays off or stays on.

the misfire codes could be the maf.

post some pics, sounds liek the hvac vac line, but who knows. do the vent to defroster and floor operation all work as they should? if not that the line thats off.

what ever line is off, is a vac leak and should be fixed or at least capped off.

How do I post pictures? And after I do I'm gonna need instructions on how to do all of this because I don't know what to do really. I have a family friend who had a supercharged Buick that can help, but I'll still need base instructions

after you host your pics some where, all i do is right click the image, copy url, in the reply window the third icon from the right is for pics, click it. a little box opens, click the url tab, then paste the copied url in the text line, then un check the little box for a large pic to be displayed. all done. easy peasy.
