Need some help with a crazy issue on my 2001 GTP.
Recently had my transmission professionally rebuilt. No issues for 2-3 months after.
One day, it would not move out of park after I started it. The PRND321 indicator on the dash was not lit up. Playing around, found out the indicator would only light up until I moved the key past accessory mode. Installed new ignition lock cylinder... same result. Checked wiring to transmission... all tight. Checked wiring to shifter assembly.. all good. Had to use the over-ride switch to drive the car. Been driving it when I can but one time it shut off randomly when driving ~40MPH. The car also surges at idle after its warmed up. Sometimes I have to two-foot it at red lights to keep it from stalling.
Now it is worse. The car refuses to start at all about 50% of the time. Suspect electrical as cranking the car and spraying ether in does not give any hits. If I wiggle my under hood fuse box, I can hear an audible click from near the ECU/intake area. Any idea what this could be? Ususally I can get the car to start after messing with that fuse box. What could possibly be making that noise under the hood? Also, the cooling fans no longer run as the car does not know it is in D, etc. Any idea what could be causing the gear indicator to not work?

Sounds like there is an electrical issue somewhere near the underhood Fusebox, wiggling wires and seeing or hearing changes indicates a bad circuit somewhere. Start there.

If the prndl isn't lighting up properly.. check the pnp switch.

Bought a new under hood fuse box from the junkyard today. it seems to have fixed the non-starting/clicking when touching the ignition relay issue.
Now I am on to the prnd indicator issue. Also bought a new shift lever assembly. installed it, the car does the exact same thing. I think have narrowed it down to something in the ignition switch itself. I have separated the switch from the steering column, and even when rotating it with a screw driver, the P indicator only comes on when I turn it 1 click forward. When moving any bit past that towards the start postion, it goes out. I have the switch completely dissasembled and cleaned, now I just need to get it re-assembled properly. its a pain with the spring and all the little metal tabs. This thread was a big help for reference: http://www.grandprixforums.net/threa...er-fan-problem

Put the ignition switch all back together, same result. I think my next step will be to buy a new Neutral safety switch that goes on the back of the tranny.
