I plan to do the same with my next car purchase. I'm going to get a loan ahead of time, then go in and basically tell them I'll give them X amount of dollars out the door, and if they won't take it, then I won't buy the car.

When I was a kid my friends dad would walk into a dealership for a car look at the one he wanted then get the money together (whether it was a loan or they just had the cash I don't know) but he would research the car and then he would talk to the salesman and start getting the price down and then he would pull out a single check and write in the amount and date and sign it. Then tell them to make it work because that was the only check he had take it or leave it. He would go back and forth 1 time then he would do the "take away" as they call it in sales, then walk out. We went with my friend on 2'different occoasions and both times he would say come on boys and we would leave. He never made it back to the car without the salesman chasing him down.

to bad those days are long f ing over. you see the sticker price? your gonna pay it pretty much after tax and all the extra bs they hide and add on.

went truck shopping with a friend. every dealer offered what ever re baits they had, then 2 to 3 grand off the sticker price. its how it works now since the bail outs, theres none of this make it work for this amount, unless it adds up to the sale price.

not to say you cant find a deal out there tho. lets just say a GM 3500 crew cab 2wd chassis alone cost 50,000, ( no dump yet.) dumps they wanted 8 to 14,000 more depending on size and options and brand.

we found one in CT listed for 42,000, 3500 crew cab 4x4 with a 9 foot mason dump. we ran up there and bought it. why was it almost 20,000 less then the trucks here? they used it to haul snow out of the dealer lot last winter, it had some scratches on the dump, and a small dent in the tail gate. and they repainted the whole dump too.

he spent a over a year looking and getting so pissed that no one would move off the god damn sticker prices like they used to.
