Re: Looking for some advice top swapped grand prix
Yea zzp said maybe 10 hp gains if I put a xp cam in not worth the time or $. But then what cam should I go with? I asked them about a xpz cam they said a little to much for a DD. I mean the car hardly sees rain I drive it 6 months out of the year and I don't drive that much I've only put 600 miles on it this summer I'd still like to be able to take it on a trip a few hours away without it being hard on it to though it's hard to get the best of both world's .

I mean based upon your mids, IMO, with just front plog, NA cam on blower, ZZP box tune... I am amazed you have 0* KR, but then the tune is probably just dumping stupid amounts of fuel at it to make sure there is none. So I correct myself.
more opinion:
Without StageIII or IV heads and some crazy flow mods, I agree, increased rev flattens the power band out there abouts 6200rpm...
as as for the NA vs Blower cams, the better NA cams actually work directly in reverse proportional to blower cams. I.E., the NA cams increas duration on intake whereas the Blower cams increase duration on the exhaust. There is a major difference eon how an engine will produce power relative to intake, compression and whatnot.
you can use stock lifters and PR with an XP, just don't set your mind on the XP, do some reasearch and see what you want out that engine : ). There are better cams, seeing as you have dbl roller and such already, your build would require minimal changes, ie, cam, rockers, maybe valve springs. Want bigger numbers, get StageII or better heads, add headers and you're there.

Re: Looking for some advice top swapped grand prix
If 12's are your goal, I would recommend switching to either an Xp or maybe s2x (intense) cam. S2x would need some light porting on the heads iirc. That's the issue here, bigger than an Xp need head porting to take advantage of the increased flow. That being said, I would go with one of the ones I listed above, get headers, and go with a full size ic (more research is needed, I believe it will fit, but check it out more). Put on a 3.0 or so and That and a good dyno tune will get you 300whp + and a low 13 high 12 sec dd.
Re: Looking for some advice top swapped grand prix
And you have yet to mention your tranny, which will break sooner or later at that power level, or your fuel system. You'll need 42# injectors at least and I would do a new fuel pump if 3.0 or lower pulley is your goal.

Everything here is correct and good advice. Heed it if you dare....
Re: Looking for some advice top swapped grand prix
My heads are ported a pretty good amount local motor shop did it they gasket matched both intake and exhaust ports took alot out. I have the zzp front plog, ceramic cross over and zzp ceramic coated ported rear manifold they claim pretty close to as good as headers on a build like mine. The only reason I ended up with that setup is because one of my first mods on the GT was a front power log so I added to it now I have 500 bucks in it lol.
Re: Looking for some advice top swapped grand prix
Driving 600 miles this summer is not a DD IMO...
but it only you can answer that question on what you want. XPZ cam has some good #'s, but like I mentioned, you'll still need to make some other changes. Ceramic coated rear exhaust manifold is ported too? Best flow benefit is headers on exhaust. if you increase the intake flow as you have, you need to do the exhaust as well. Plog's IMO are just half a header, lol.
but just to give you some numbers, they're old, but relative just the same...

Re: Looking for some advice top swapped grand prix
Since you can't fsic, why don't you see if e85 is available and do that..gains from it are just as good as an ic...or spend the money and get the correct heads so you can run a fsic...I am assuming you are using a lim that has injector bosses on the limit and that's why you can't run a full size since you have na heads..or I just didn't read enough but that's what I am guessing
Re: Looking for some advice top swapped grand prix
Before changing or doing anything, I'd get it to the track to see what you're running right now. For all we know, a set of drag radials might be all you need.
Re: Looking for some advice top swapped grand prix
Op stated that e85 is not available in his area.

My bad..nvm...
Re: Looking for some advice top swapped grand prix
Get some headers....that plog is holding you back. And that ported rear mani is nowhere near a header in any app

right, because the GT1 NA cam is the hidden jewel of 3800 power on a top swap blower set up. Come on... Lol
Re: Looking for some advice top swapped grand prix
What do you guys think about the xpz cam?

It makes good power, but i believe it's a little hard to tune. Search the tuning section and there is more than one or two threads about tuning it. Besides that and needing upgraded pushrods and lifters iirc, its a solid, fast cam. Good choice with ported heads and (possibly) an IC. Again though, any trans work? Is it built?
Re: Looking for some advice top swapped grand prix
Was thinking about it does the xpz cam require any valve clearence? My heads are ported a good amount but the valves are stock size. The tranny is pretty mich stock have a shift kit in it changed filter and fluid is about it still shift really good with no slip just going to take it easy for a while I don't go to the dragstrip just a summer DD with some extra hp.
Re: Looking for some advice top swapped grand prix
Have you thought about any cams not from zzp?
Re: Looking for some advice top swapped grand prix
Honestly, stay away from the XPZ unless you run roller tipped rockers. I've worked on 3 engines with that cam, and on stock rockers the tips of the valves and the retainers get all chewed up.
Re: Looking for some advice top swapped grand prix
I realize your NA heads are ported but the NA heads are holding you back from a full size Intercooler. SuperChargers run great with intercoolers. I'm not a fan of short stack intercoolers but that's all that will fit on a zzp ssm90 set up. Your libel to get more HP from a short stack than a cam. It's a lot easier to install also.
