Finally got around to opening up the blower I bought. First time inside an M90, and I need opinions on the rotors and casing.

Rotors have a few chips and could stand to be cleaned. Are the chips all that unexpected, and any suggestions on cleaning (if it's really even necessary)? Blower has about 80k miles on it, I think.

Rotors (note the few chips on the ridges):

Rotors turned so you can see the rest:

rotors look okay. the grey part is the coating. it will be shiny if the coating is gone. the black/brown is just carbon build up.

a better picture would help out with the case, but as long as it is smooth then i dont see any problems with it. any of the bearings making noise?

Case looks worse in the pic than it really is. Like I said a few chips are missing from the ridges on the rotors but otherwise nothing drastic.

I already know the bearings are in need of replacement and have a set ready. Going to send them along to Reptile when I get porting done. He said he can replace them for me.

Thanks for the assurance guys. I just didn't want to do all this work to find out I have to get a new rotor pack or something.

Smooth the inside of the case a bit with fine grain sand paper and your good to go.

    Everything looks normal.

Smooth the inside of the case a bit with fine grain sand paper and your good to go.
    Bad advice^

A gentle cleaning if you must do something to please yourself. You do not ever want to sand out the scratches...it only increases the tolerances of the rotor to case wall space, and makes your supercharger less efficient.

So your saying it's a bad thing when I take the die grinder to it to smooth out the grooves?

I didn't say sand out the groves, I said just hit it with very fine, close to, or even straight emery cloth to knock the excess off.

dont clean the rotors at all. the carbon buildup is good for sealing and making more boost.

i wouldnt clean the inside of the case either.

I guess in this case, carbon build up is a good thing.

Those grooves are from the rotors being "run in" with the case. It's perfectly normal to have them there, and if you install newer rotors, they will do the same.

Just think, it's gonna get dirty again anyway.

Well, that's the case you will be receiving before too long. As long as your satisfied with it, good enough for me.
