I just ended up changing my coils in my beater and I am a bit curious about the ones in my GTP. I have as much of a problem with modding my car as the rest of you. I just continue. How can I inspect my coil packs and is there a way to test them? About how long do they last? Should I just take the time to replace them since the cost is not too much at all?

I do preventative maintence. But if it ain't broke don't fix it. So no I would not buy new ones if these aren't bad.

you can test the resistance between the two posts on each coil, but ive never done it so im not sure what a good resistance is. also, if they are rusty that is a problem. once the coating is gone from them they just continue to rust.

I'd have to look up the exact figures, but with a multimeter you can check the primary and secondary resistances. One you check the two posts, the other you flip it over and check the bottom contacts.

OK, I found this link where it tells me basically what to do to install a coil. I figure that I need the coil off the car and in my hands that I should clean everything. On step 5 it calls for heat transfer grease. What exactly is that and where can I get some?

Just use some dielectric grease. It typically looks similar to vasoline with the consistincy of regular grease.

You can pick it up at any auto parts store. It's not a bad idea to put it on the ends of you're spark plugs where the boot slips on to prevent and kind of corosion from forming. It will also waterproof whatever you put it on such as electrical connectors ect. ect.

the test specs are 0.5 to 0.9 ohms for the primary terminals under the coil, and secondary resistance of 5,000 to 8,000 ohms at the high-voltage terminal.
