I recently read a thread discussing reusable rocker bolts and seen a few posts stating that the Comp Cams kit was not to good, stripping etc. and that the bolt kit from PRJ was much better. Since I am about to need some I decided to go ahead and order some from PRJ. I ordered 3 kits at $18 each since I have a GTP and both my daughters have GTPs as well and may need them later and some of the parts listed on the website are discontinued and didn't know how much longer these would be available. So I got a replay from PRJ stating I was getting a refund for 2 of the sets as he only had 1 set left and didn't mention having any more available at a later date.

So I double checked to verify that ARP doesn't make a kit, confirmed. But while I was checking I noticed they had a link to submit a kit request, so I did for a rocker arm bolt kit for our 3.8s. Here's the link http://arp-bolts.com/p/kitsuggestions.php

I thought some others may want to fill out the request as well and who knows maybe ARP will supply a rocker bolt kit one day.

comp cam ones worked well for me so far. I don't know what part is stripping but I never had issues with the hex bit or the threads.

The threads strip. The bolts also break.

I'm guessing that prj just found an ARP bolt that works for our valvetrain.

That's correct, PRJ uses an ARP grade 8 5/16" bolt for the rocker arm bolts, they're not specifically rocker arm bolts or for the 3800 platform.

CompCam "reuseable" bolts are also grade 8. And I've personally extracted several broken one including two on my own vehicle.

Paul and I debated over this years ago; his position was he trusted ARP quality control and felt they were stronger even though they were grade 8. My position was I've not had an issue using new GM rocker bolts and until I do I'll keep using them.

Glad I got my PRJ's when I did..

So am I correct in saying the rocker bolts are SAE despite folks saying everything on this engine is metric?

If that's the case, wouldn't these work? They're rated to 170,000 psi, so stronger than grade 8.

Just about everything below the blower minus accessories on these motors is still SAE.
