Isn't there some special tool for the pulley replacement? I doubt the friend of mine who is going to do the work will even have that.
I also seem to recall reading that dropping the pulley size drops city-scooting performance, but increase top-end? I'm not looking to drag the car I just want more pep out of it and most of what I do is city driving.
Thanks for all of the help, people. :th_thumbsup-wink:
You should probably just forget about the pulley for now, and do headers. I only say that because after you do headers you'll want to do the pulley. At least, that's how it was for me. I did the headers just to kill the factory KR, and was going to leave it at that... but once the modding bug bites....

ZZP sells an oversized tensioner pulley that will allow you to run the stock length belt with I think down to a 3.4 pulley. http://shop.zzperformance.com/store/...leys-6rib.aspx You can do a pulley puller purchase or rental from ZZP or another guy that sells them sseilmnop, check out his sticky in the parts for sale thread.
And most of my bolt-ons including dropping my pulley only increased my mpg as well as get up and go.
Re: Good mods for a currently stock '99 GTP?
Forgot to mention the good thing about going with the oversized pulley to keep the stock S\C belt length is that you don't have to worry about getting the right size belt, you can just look up the stock replacement size. Also I think there is a list of belt sizes for different pulley sizes, intercoolers etc. maybe in the safely modding your 3800 sticky and I know ZZP has one on their website as well.

Ah-ha! I forget you're in my backyard. That would be excellent. I'll PM you when I'm ready. Thanks!

So that begs the question; what's a good pulley size for me to run; 3.4 or 3.5?
Re: Good mods for a currently stock '99 GTP?
And I'm looking at the Autolite 104 plugs now; the 3800 modify thread says people tend to go with copper core. Not platinum/iridium?
Also noticing that ZZ recommends the TR6 NGKs.
Do either of these plus require gaping?
Re: Good mods for a currently stock '99 GTP?
All plugs require gaping. I do .050. Works fine for me but others have it at a different gap. You just have to find what works best for your car.
Autolite 104s are good if you're dropping pulleys, otherwise leave the ones you have now in.
I believe the belt you need is the 660. The 658 i think is if you're running an intercooler
Re: Good mods for a currently stock '99 GTP?
Did Scotty get a new job or something? he's usually right on top of this stuff.
Here's what I know based on what I've learned here:
Copper over Iridiums because of cost. Lots of guys are changing gaps and heat ranges trying to kill KR. If you try a set of coppers and they don't work so well, it's not a huge loss. I have iridiums (one range colder than stock) and they work fine. They also came gaped at the factory spec 0.060" I check the gap on every plug before installation.
No platinums. Our ignition system eats them. Something about the waste spark system? IDK.
If I'm wrong on any of this, someone will correct me.

You can probably do the 3.4 with a tune and the headers. Just make sure you're scanning for KR.
