So I'm motor shopping for my 04'.. (Bad head, I can get a complete engine for around the same price as machine shop alone)

The yard I'm talking to will sell me the entire motor, accessories included. What's the best year range to look for?

I'd prefer to be able to re-use everything off the new motor, but if I had to I could move accessories off my old motor.

Some threads look to say 98-04 but there may be some other differences..

I recommend finding a long block (engine with heads) from any L67 or L32 powered car. Swap over the good parts from yours and call it good.

The H-body cars have different oil filter housings and oil pans and engine mounts.

Good thing you mentioned that. I've got a 2004 W-Body Impala SS.

Whatever I get, I planned on resealing the oil pan gasket, valve covers, and LIM before I put the motor back in the car. Now I wish I had two engine stands.

get a lower conversion gasket kit, its 30 bucks. replace all the lower gaskets, pan, rear cover, timing cover, water pump, has both new crank seals, and the oil filter housing gasket. then get a set of metal lim gaskets and your all set.

im doing the same thing to a used engine i got. its a n/a block that im top swapping, then its getting swapped in my car.

I like to go for the lower miles/newer motor personally.

If it comes with the aluminum oil pan, then don't reseal it. Reseal the rear engine cover. By using your accessories, you know they are the right parts.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.
