Hey guys, just a crazy idea, wondering what it would take to swap an L67 in the place of a Northstar (in a Cadillac Deville, for instance).

I think it's undeniable that there is interest in the L67/4T80 combination in this community, and instead of trying a transmission swap and the associated clearance issues, I wonder if one could swap the motor instead. I would think with a modified harness, an L67 PCM could run the electronics on the 4T80e.

Obviously I don't have everything figured out, I just want an idea if more research is warranted, or if I should drop the idea entirely.

If I knew what I do now 2 or 3 years ago Id buy a Bonneville GXP with the 4t80 in it and swap a turbo 3800 in it instead or swapping a 4t80 on a smaller wbody subframe. From what I've heard the 4t80 is easier to fit on the bigger cars than the Wbody's.

I'm curious on this as well I wouldn't think it would be too hard. A buddy wanted to swap out his northstar for a l67 in his sts.

is there any aftermarket support for the 4T80? I mean can you actually get it built to support 500 whp? I think the turbo 3800 in a bonneville gxp swap is a great idea, except that they only made them for 2 years, so finding one might be more challenging.

people need to search around here and on thechicagogarage.com

Look what james aka turbo400sbc and team moose knuckles aka twinv6gtp have done with them 4t80s

they will hold over 500 im certain of that. As for aftermarket people are slowly digging up more info on them. Only issues I know of is the soft 3rd shift and even a lsd diff is available for them.

the twin engine project car had a 4t80 in the back of it.

Progress is being made on this trans im anxious to see what this summer holds and I know GTPower is working on some sort of a 4t80 setup too.

And I cant leave out dave from TEP he has a turbo 3800/4t80 that's running now.

With a couple dollars stuck into the accumulators, they should hold 500whp all day long. How much beyond that, I don't think anyone really knows yet. I'm hoping to find out though soon. The local car club has a dyno day in about 2 months. I'm pretty sure I could win it with 700whp.

Curious about the wiring conversions... Caddys with blown Northstar engines are a dime a dozen around here.

Getting a built 4T65E just seems illogical to me.... even the dirt cheapest performance builds by a reputable vendor are around 2K, plus all the shipping and associated fees. I payed about that for my whole GTP. Heck, you can get a Deville in great shape (minus bad motor) for that around here.

I have a 2000 Deville in my local pick-n-pull that is more than willing to donate it's 4T80 for $100, but, it just SEEMS like an engine swap would be easier.

Certainly... but this is more of an engine swap than a trans swap, IMO. Lot of potential Cadillac BCM/ L67 PCM issues and the like.

    lol, you have no clue.

    caddy electrical/bcm's are ****s

80e swap on a 3800 G/H body is a couple axles, and misc stuff.
to 3800 swapp a 4t80e car would be considerably more involved but not impossible

ive found blown motor catera's for 800$

turbo 3800/5 spd camaro setup in a "mini" GTO with the sweet opel cladding would be nearly the same work for far more reward

Love the Catera idea, saw one of your other posts on the subject...if I had some experienced guidance, I'd probably try to tackle it.

    lol, you have no clue.
Wow... I thought that was clear when I started a feeler thread on the subject, belittling me was pretty unnecessary.

i was refering to the caddy electrical/BCM stuff.

ive spent way too much time chasing caddy elec issues. gadjets and gizmo's are nothing but headaches after vehicles start to get older.

data bus and EBTCM issues could be rampant with the differences between the engine management PCM's and the chassis
