You know, removing that coolant over flow tank would give you the room you need from the top.

On elbows..yeah I rtvd them. The first set I put in I didn't use any and they leaked within 6 months. Just my luck though, as a first time installer maybe I didn't do it well enough. Idk. Ive done more than a few by now, I rtv them only because it can't hurt. I dont want any comebacks.

my car has no coolant tank, it still dont come out the top. wheel well is the easy way out and back in. chances are you have the car on a jack stand and the wheel off to take the lines off the pump, you just pull it through where the axle goes through.

Well I'm not perfect, especially on my first go at it lol. I'm sure it wasn't perfectly true in the hole.

If I was just doing the pump, the wheel well would be the preferred method.

I was flushing the coolant as well, so I was taking care of two things at once. I opened the radiator drain, left the radiator cap off and put the hose in the hole where the thermostat goes. When the water flowed clear, I let all the water drain and filled it will antifreeze. I didn't care about the little amount that was left in the heater core.
