I have a 2000 GTP with 153k miles. I've owned the car since new and a few weeks ago I noticed a loud whine noise coming from the engine. It moves up and down in pitch according to the RPM. It sounds like it's coming from the super charger.

I don't get any rattling sound or vibration. Could I just need to replace the oil in the sc or am I too far gone?

If I need to change the bearings or something can I do it myself?

    Thanks.

Power Steering Pump? You sure it is the supercharger? Change the fluid for sure. Start there.

Could also be a being in another pulley, unless you are sure it is the super charger. Check your belt too.

Take the belt off the supercharger to see if the noise goes away. If it does, check the tensioner and idler pulleys next.

Some Gp's get a slight whine in the PS pump. Doesn't affect it any, but just has a whine to it. Mine is one of them. You either get used to the sound or replace it.

x2 I first noticed the whine before I bought my car and dad made me replace it before I bought it. No biggie though, and do what reptile said and get back to us.

And just thinking about it, certain brands of belts will have a whine also. When I had my Chevelle I replaced my belt and going down the road, you would have sworn it was s/c'ed.

I wish I could remember who made it. I want to say it was a goodyear belt, but heck that was like 12 years ago.

Gatorback's make a whine, my BU had a whine to it when I put the GB on. Wasnt a bad thing.

The roots style blowers ive had on cars always make a whine. Ive never heard an S/C car that didnt have a whine.

Back in the day I had a 67 2dr and a 72 2dr. Both hard tops. Kick myself in the @$$ everyday for getting rid of them. The 67 had a 800hp vette motor and the 72 was about 450hp. One day, I shall have another. Have any pics of yours?

Sweet. Mine needed a little bit of body work and being young didn't want to mess with it. If I knew then what I know now, man they would have been awsome.

When I replaced the belts on my Chevelle, the brand of belt I was using had a whine to it, so I was just saying the belt could be causing his whine. Then I got asked about my Chevelle and what not, but back on subject now. Sorry.
