a bad master is a soft pedal, or its got a leak and its loosing fluid.

bad booster is a rock hard pedal, like the cars off and you pumped the brakes. if its soft car off pumping the pedal, its a bad master cylinder for sure, or its leaking.

id try bleed all the brakes, then if the pedal dont get firm again, change the master.

look under it where it bolts to the booster, see if its wet under there. if so the master is bad. blown seal out the back side.

    Hi Scotty:

I have the same issue, but it isn't wet under where the master and booster connect, although I see some rust/corrosion on the lower part of the booster drum. Fluid is disappearing somewhere, not leaking under wheels or anywhere under car, so I suspect it is leaking from the back of the master into the booster. Would I need to replace the booster too? What do I do if I discover a pool of brake fluid in the booster? Will it eventually get sucked out and burned in the exhaust?

    Thanks

dont think it can leak back into the booster, its sealed, only a rod pushes through it into the master. masters do go bad and not leak. but you must have a leak if the fluid keeps dropping, unless you did brakes 3 years ago and have not checked the level since and just looked and its low, thats normal. pads wear and more fluid is stored in the calipers.

Thanks, Scotty. I checked again, and got a friend to pump the pedal while I took a closer look. Sure enough I have a leak in the line(s). I'm going to create a new thread since mine is no longer a master/booster issue. PLease look for it and comment. I always appreciate your help.
