Lol yeah. I just can't imagine what it could be other than something inside the transmission. Could that sound be coming from the engine? It just doesn't seem like it could be..

I'm going to have a buddy replicate the sound while I poke around with a stethoscope.

I've heard that sound before, only in a front wheel drive. It was a bearing in the transmission. The exact same symptoms too

For more confirmation you can start at about 50 mph and gradually shift down in gears until you reach 1st, change gears when you are going slow enough but you want good engine braking. The other thing I did that made it noticeable was accelerate heavy locked in 1st and let off. Post back when you know, I'm very curious

Torque converter maybe, but i wouldnt think a bearing. I would suspect a bearing if you could replicate the noise in neutral. No other bearings that i can think of at the moment could make noise unless its actually moving.
Have you checked the harmonic dampner?

I did suspect the harmonic balancer for a bit, but after googling the sounds that makes when it's going out, I am pretty sure it rules that out. That makes more of a thrashing noise and sounds pretty violent. I may check it out just to make sure though.

Also, I downshift when I pass people so I can get into gear without slamming it since it's not tuned and it doesn't make the noise (I don't hear it). It's only when I am getting into the throttle or taking off from a stop.

God, I hope it's not the harmonic balancer. If that's going bad, can't it score the crankshaft which = new engine?

I think I have the exact same noise as you. It only happens when accelerating reasonably fast from a stop and when engine load goes down it fades away. It also happens when I turn and begin to accelerate. It makes what I would call a growling sound at a pitch lower than the normal engine note. Not a bearing type growl at all. It has sort of a vibration feeling in the pedal and to a much lesser extent the steering wheel. Let me know if this sounds like the same thing you are experiencing. And I'll continue with what I've found out so far.

This is probably the closest relation to what I am experiencing! I definitely feel it a bit in the steering wheel and pedal, but mostly the pedal. It's almost like the subframe is vibrating, right? It definitely sounds like some kind of metal on metal contact but more of a vibration instead of like a clatter.

Does your car make the sound while moving and giving it hard acceleration?

Also, have you seen my videos?

I've watched the videos, the very first one at that 14 sec in I could hear what sounds a lot like my problem. And no it doesn't make the noise if I'm cruising at like 30 or above and put the pedal down.

Here;s the thing though. One of my swaybar brackets on the frame broke this winter and I just fixed it (new bracket and bushing). Upon doing this the noise went away a lot. Like I used to have to really feather the gas for it to not do it, and now it's only if i try and accelerate faster than normal. Sooooo, I'm thinking that it definitely has something to do with the swaybar or something else, contacting the engine or exhaust under load. I just haven't been able to figure out what..

Hmm. I have the GMPP sway bar and recently replaced the bushings so I don't believe that is it.. When my swaybar was broken, it would clunk a lot.

I think your car is in the infancy of what mine does, because mine only used to do it from a stop like yours does, but now it does it even when rolling.

It happens from a roll, just not a roll over about 30mph. Does the sound happen when you go over a bump and the suspention flexes a reasonable amount with your foot on the pedal?

Yes! We definitely have the same sound, and it's not cv/bearing related. Did you check your sway bar to make sure it isn't that? I would hate for us to not have the same problem because if we do have the same problem we have twice the chance of getting it fixed.

I'm at school for another week, but after finals are over the first thing I'm gonna do is get under there and try to figure this thing out...

It's gotta be something coming in contact with something it shouldn't SOMEWHERE... Probably why fixing my sway bar made the noise slightly less common because with that fixed the body is rolling less making contact more difficult.

K Slice, did you ever end up figuring it out? Also, I have a video here that I would assume shows it also does it while the car is not moving

I haven't gotten under there yet, had to take an unexpected summer class (FML) that's been taking up a lot of my free time. This week I'm going to need an oil change though so I'll be getting under it and taking a closer look around. I've never tried to duplicate the sound brake-torquing it before. When I head to work tonight I'll see if I can. Then I just need to find someone I can trust to do that while I take a look..
I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

Sounds good. I have a co-worker at the company I am doing a co-op for and he's pretty knowledgable about grand prixs, so I have a feeling between one of us we will have the solution soon!

Power steering pump? I've had a few of those go bad on me. Bearing went bad and the pulley shaft wore a vertical hole in the pump.. 1 of my gtp's I would hear power steering fluid pressure at higher rpm.. only thing you can do is pull the belts and go thru the pulleys
