98 GTP- What to Expect?

Hey Guys. I have a 1998 Grand Prix GTP with the following mods, see below. I have yet to run this vehicle at the track. What should I expect to see 1/4 mile time? Please advise.

· Supercharged Series II 3.8L GM Engine (Fresh Rebuild 10,000 Miles Ago, Stock Internals)

· GM Transmission w/ Performance Shift Mode Selector (Fresh Rebuild 30,000 Miles Ago, Stock Internals)

· Custom Fender-Well Cold Air Intake Kit

· ZZ Performance Custom Tuned PCM Engine Computer

· Custom Ported High Flow Throttle Body

· ZZ Performance Throttle Body Spacer Kit

· ZZ Performance Throttle Body Heat Shield Kit

If I were you I'd save your money instead of getting these things. Your money would be better spent on other mods.

First of all if you are going to spend money on a bigger throttle body get a Northstar TB, oh and just to let you know you won't really benefit too much from a larger TB without the inlet of your supercharger ported to match.

Secondly TB spacers are pretty much gimmicks on cars with Fuel Injection, they are practically worthless on these car's unless they are tapped for running nitrous or meth.

You aren't really going to benefit from a ported and machined LIM unless you port the outlet of the supercharger or are running an intercooler.

GTP ignition systems are top notch and there really isn't too much room for improvement, plus from what I've read MSD coil packs are meant for GT's not GTP's.

You don't really want to block off the EGR unless it's faulty or your running an intercooler.

And as for the high volume oil pressure kit, if you really want it that's fine, but don't think that it's going to make your car any faster.


Edit: Oops didn't realize those were the mods you are running, I thought you just had them planned. Sorry to break the news to ya though.

with those mods, you should run a mid 13 if you know how to drive and can get traction. but how is your tune looking, how much timing on the top end? i am only running a 3.4 with a similar list.

Just curious, why is this a tech tip???

And if you've never been to a track before, I'd say a 13.9 - 14.1, it'll take a good launch and a good tune to be in the mid 13's, but every car is different, so you may be able to pull it off

Something people tend to leave out which I always feel is one of the most crucial factors is what kind of tires are you running. Honestly if you have a nice set of slicks, or sticky tires you may surprise yourself with better times than expected.

Great point. No one ever does think about that when they ask "how fast is my car?". I would have to assume that since he listed pretty much every mod right down to the boost gauge that he has stock street tires. My vote is mid 13's with street tires and maybe low 13's with dr/slicks.

you could probably knock half of those things off the list and still get the same results

but i think you should expect mid 13's easy in any weather.
