Ok, replaced front oil seal 3 times in the last. Last year put a timkin in and it leaked so removed it put a GM seal in. Lasted a year. Put a new one in GM a month ago. Worked for a week or so...Blew again and figured had to much pressure building up. Checked PCV and it was gummed up to hell. So fixed that and added a breather cap cause I got it cheap and figured it would help as well (I have an SSIC but still retains PCV but couldn't hurt). After installing another GM new one...no leaks. After a week it is leaking again. I read it needs to seat itself but any ideas how long that takes? My other one did not leak. Balancer also has a sleeve on it so no groves. Any thoughts would be helpful.

get rid of the breather for one thing. it letting un metered air into the engine.

theres a dorman kit i think with a new sleeve for that seal to help it not to leak any more, iirc the timing cover wears out or something like that.

    Been there done that.
Get an AC Delco seal and try again, use a pvc coupler or a big socket to press it in nice an easy.
I polished my balancer snout on a lathe to get rid of the groove on the second try too.

Last two were an AC delco from GM stealership. Cleaned all surfaces including the balancer shaft. Installed with a big socket so it seated good. Also put a repair sleeve on the balancer so it has no groves as I read that could be an issue. I will remove the breather that's no big deal. The puddle of oil in my driveway is....Need to get this fixed the GXP does not like the snow...need the GTP back up and running. LOL. Guess I will try again with another seal. It is just weird that I get no leaks for about a week then it pours out on start up. UGH>

Before installing a new seal, slide the new seal over the dampener seal surface and check the friction between the dampener w/sleeve and seal. If the O.D. on the dampener is too large, it can and either stretch the seal, or cause too much friction on the seal surface, causing the seal the wear prematurely .

Will check that with the new one. Anyone know if the seal needs to break in? If so how long do you wait.

I wouldn't remove breather until you no that you aren't building pressure or vacuum in the engine. It's quite possible you have a problem with the SSIC and your putting vacuum into the engine and not letting air back in through intercooler.

You my friend are a genius..Pulled the supercharger off and the PCV hole was blocked up with RTV. There was a small hole only allowing the pcv to work. I RTVd the $#@$% out of it cause I heard SSICs tend to leak...The other good news when I took my SC off I found out my Throttle Body gasket was cracked which explains my mystery vacuum leak I have not been able to find.
And now that the gen 3 is off I guess I will put my Gen V on.

make sure your not losing the spring around the inside of the gasket. goop that up with grease so it does not pop out.
