So I have a friend who has a 98 Regal with a top swapped L36 that has a misfire we can't seem to shake. It's an l36 bottom end, ported heads, Gen 3 S/C, 3.4 pulley, 180* Tstat, Fenderwell intake, Pacesetter headers, a custom full 3" exhaust, and we just put new coils, wires, and AL 104's in it gapped to .58 I believe it was.. It has a misfire at idle that we can't seem to figure out. Any ideas? The only thing I could think of is if the plugs are gapped too far apart..

Stock gap is .060", so not likely.

    No tune?

    No beef.

Probably popped a piston from high compression + too small of a pulley.

    its not the gap.

    check compression, icm, injectors, etc.

He does have a tune on it. I just have no idea what else to check for this misfire. I believe he has stock L67 Injectors but they're nearly maxed out after the tune. I think his tuner is trying to fix KR by running the car pig rich but I'm not sure. I'm not an expert lol.

    Fuel washing cylinders.

    Fantastic.

Running pig rich isn't good either.

I think he's running too small of a pulley and needs a better tune personally. He sees about 3* of KR and is almost maxing his injectors out at WOT. Could the issue be the tune? Too much fuel at once?

I'd think the pulley is too small,(not from personal experience just from what i read when i was going to topswap)
I would go back to a stock pulley size, a 3.4 pulley on a n/a bottom is like a 3.2 pulley on a gtp.

With ported heads and what not he should be fine at least with a 3.6. He needs to get a bigger pulley though and a better tune..

I had a misfire on the top end (above 5500 rpm). Changed the icm problem solved. It's worth a try for your buddy's misfire.

Hmm alright. Well we'll look into the icm and I'll try to talk him into a 3.6 or a 3.5 pulley and a better tune and hopefully get this solved.
