Still having rough idle problems and i replaced the maf twice and all the other sensors, it through a code the other day saying lean fuel trim and it went off by itself. itll sputter if i accelerate out of 1000 rpms and itll idle between 1grnd and 500. cant pin point a problem. i smell sweet fuel and there are no vaccum leaks.

Hmm. Have you tried changing the fuel pressure regulator? That would be my guess if you smell gas.

Well it smells sweet. Which means lean fuel right? It used to be to rich which is and egg smell.

I have a 2000 SE . It idled ruff, idled at about 500-600 rpm,and shuttered when I took off from a stop. Changed maf, wires, plugs, idle air control valve, throttle position sensor, cleaned the throttle body and egr. Nothing helped. Checked the coils and bingo bad coils. Replaced all 3 and now it starts on the 2nd turn over, idles at about 1000-1100 and you can set a glass of water on the hood and it doesn't even shimmer. Not saying for sure its your problem but worth checking your coils.

    Sweet smell is normally coolant.

    Gas smells like gas.

A non catted car just smells of awesome and partly unburnt fuel with a stonger odor, not so much rotten eggs though.

Okay so I have no cat. That would explain the gas smell

if your idle is jumping up and down check for vac leaks. sounds like a broken vac line.

Vaccum lines or fine unless I'm missing something since I can't really see the ones that run to the back of the motor. But there's also a lose in power upon accel. After that it's completely fine.

if it sounds like its got a huge ass cam in it at idle thats a vac leak. 500 up to 1000, back to 500 is a big swing.

just what mine did when the evap line off the TB broke.

What would a huge ass cam sound like. My car will rock back and forth if I don't hold the gas after a warm start and at a stop light. No codes thrown though which I think is a misfire.

this is what a huge ass cam sounds like.

if your car is doing this, its a vac leak more then likely.

sound no, but the rpm's surge like that? if so its a vac leak.

It surges lower than that it doesn't go above a grand unless it's a warm start

get some carb cleaner, its like 3 bucks. car running spray the carb cleaner at the vac lines. if the idle jumps up, you found the leak area. it dont hurt to wiggle the lines when spraying at them, this will help open up a crack if its there.

the fat hose off the front of the TB likes to break, and the Tee's also break, under the snout and on the fpr..

fpr is on the fuel rail, where the T is. dont think thats your issue.

you said it threw a code for lean bank one? or something lean? if so thats like 99% of the time a vac leak.
