Thread: what is this? its leaking

its looking towards the back of the motor pic taken from right next to the downpipe. I think its the steering.? Thanks for the hello.

Yup, power steering rack. A pretty commom spot for them to leak.

If it's not leaking to bad i'd let it go until it warms up out.

ahh. I always seem to have a leak somewhere. is it an easy fix?

not really, its a pita the first time out, for 23 bolt job 10 of which are the lug nuts.

its a good 3 hour job on your back. its not all that hard, your just working in tight quarters.

Mine was easy took about an hour

Did you get yours from a junk yard?

mine came from a junk yard for 75 bucks.

make sure your wheels are dead straight, then take it out. once the old one is out put the new one next to it and match up the steering gear nub to as close as the same angle as you can, as well as the lock nuts on the inner tie rods for the outer tie rods. this will keep the alignment close but not perfect. and help get the intermediate shaft back on easier.

you'll want to get it aligned asap after it put in.

good time to change the sway bar or its bushings and outer tie rods ( if any of its bad) while doing the rack swap.

I would also recommend changing the outer tie rods as well. And that intermediate shaft is kind of a pain.

I got my first rack from the jy it was bad and the jy wouldn't return my calls so I went to az and bought a new one

where is the sticker on the trunk lid exactly(picture) cause I foamed all of the wholes..

it should be right on the under side of the trunk.

to see if you have magna steer just look where you took that pic by the column boot for a wire. if you see a wire leading to a harness its got magna steer.
