I recently had to back flush my heater core several times as I had lost heat due to gunk buildup in the core.(it was doing this before the backflush just wasn't sure if I was contributing to the temp fluctuation) That issue is now resolved but ever since doing so my temp gauge has reached the halfway point when idling sometimes just above the halfway mark and once I start driving again it levels off back down to around 170°-185°. It doesn't overheat or smell of antifreeze. Now this is how I purged the coolant system after the back flush ect. I put on my no spill funnel cracked the bleeder valve filled until full, closed the bleeder valve and started the car. I let her run for close to an hour while bubbles circulated themselves out the funnel once the bubbles had stopped I made sure the rad. was full and capped her.

Now I am not an idiot I know that it is obviously going to heat up a bit while idling due to lack of air flow through the radiator but ... my question is ... is this normal do you guys/girls have this issue.. could it be a faulty tstat?

Pictures of driving @ 65 mph vs idling after drive for 5min-10min

unless its doing this while driving its fine. mine will hit the 1/2 way mark then the fans come on if left to idle. driving im a tick over the 1/4 line.

Yeah my fans have yet to ever come on. I don't think they are faulty but its just cold as hell here. is there a way to force the fans on ? just to verify they function ?

turn the a/c or defroster on, the fans should turn on at any temp.

I take ^ back I did test the a/c and I remember hearing the clutch or whatever "click" on or engage and they air was pretty cold (temp was in the 50's) so hard to tell but I believe it works

Yea I feel you my cars get freezing if I go on the highway on a cold day, the temp gets to almost 1/4 , I never thought of it as a problem, I just looked at it like it's just the cold air .

say your driving at a steady pace, highway or main road and your temp rises and falls usually means there's air trapped in the lim and it needs to be bled out via the bleeder valve on the t stat housing.

my car will be at full temp if left to idle for 10 to 15 minutes in the cold of winter. i get heat (well warm air) as soon as i see the temp needle move off the bottom of cold on the gauge.
