Looks like dexcool crud. Im sure you can clean those coolant passages but I don't know if there is more of that crud in other areas of the heads, block or front motor cover? I've not run into that problem with the two motor builds ive built. Maybe some other experienced person on here can give you advise on how to make sure you get all that crud flushed or cleaned out.

Just a few updates, engine is almost ready to be put in waiting on a new oil pan and I should be dropping it in Tuesday if everything goes well.

Heres the block, if it wasnt for the engine mounting bracket I removed Im sure it would have poped a hole instead of this.

I though I would do a followup since I got so caught up in the build I got lazy with the posting. First of all thanks everyone for the help, GTPs been running strong since November. Still working out a few small kinks but I finally got to tearing the old head off and this is what I found.

Haha thanks. Just a small town about an hour north of Norfolk, or 2 from Columbus. There's not many Nebraska members I'm glad to see there's more than just me lol.

Ah, nice. I used to work in Norfolk. Also dated a girl from Randolph for a bit. I have a garage in Columbus now, and live in Schuyler. You get to Norfolk at all for the cruises during the summer?

Nah I haven't but I might have to do that this summer, it sounds like it would be fun.
