Most people daily drive their cars, so when giving your take on the cam you have, please try to mention daily driver, track, daily driver city, etc.

Here is my take on the XP cam in daily driver, mostly city and city/hiway.

I absolutely love the sound under almost any conditions...this is relative since the sound of a V6 sucks.

Mine engine hates cold weather. 50 - 80* is where it is happiest. Engine is hard to turn over under 20*. fwiw I didn't used to be like that before the XP.

Performance at WOT is great. Anything under light to medium throttle excelleration seems slower than stock. Lighly excelleratiing on the hiway from say 65mph and 2000rpm is terrible IMO. To get moving I have to throttle enough to get a downshift or at least the coverter to unlock. This bring the rpms enough to help. Of course if I go WOT from 65 and it downshifts to 2nd, then...at least until I have to jam on the brakes to avoid the cars in front.

I also live in hilly area and low speed low rpm climbing of hills did stick until the transmission was adjusted to help. Staying in 3rd longer, not letting the converter lock up too soon etc.

Well this is my take.. prior mod levels were

    Stock
Stock with 1.9 modded rockers with and without stage 3 IC
    S1X cam

Thanks to Trannyman and DuBob for spending time giving their take on these cams. Guys feel free to add to this thread. We all need to know the differing opinions.

I have the VS cam in mine. The car is a daily driver and I opted for the VS cam because I wanted more mid-range power. The car pulls strong without a doubt. There are times the sound is more lopey than others.

    DuBob = awesomeness.

Matt's VS cammed GTP is the one I was thinking of when I told you that the VS can sound VERY nice with certain cat-backs and stock idle. Matt can tell you that I comment him on the sound of his "little" cam.

I did a VS cam on the 2nd GTP I bough last year (aka DuBob2) and it had a stock cat-back on it with no resonator and no cat and you could sure as hell hear it. Here are two vids:

First start with the VS cam, Pacesetters w/no cat, and stock cat-back w/no res:

First start with the VS cam, Pacesetters w/no cat and SLP PowerFlo cat-back:

I have the vs cam (was in it when I bought it) I have no cat and stock mufflers, and it sounds decent. I drive mine daily, and it has more power at all speeds than the stock cars I've driven

Maybe you remember me from newimpala? or NAIOA? (Hoosier Performance did the install...fwiw) S1X went in and spun a rod bearing immediately, had engine rebuilt, then had steering and other creaking and banging noises, demodded and off ot the dealership for repair. Only had the S1X for a short time, but it felt a lot better on the lowend than the XP does.

    What?

Oh and I need to listen to the clips again, but I think the end of the first clip sounded better than all of the second...the revving sounded a little farty in the second. Time for a second listen and perhaps editing, although I'm disturbed by James reference to getting wood.

LMAO Don't be jealous my friend!!

But that second video I liked, it didnt sound that "farty" to me though. I did love the low rumble it produced between the revs though.

So out of my own pure ignorance about cams.........

The VS cam is more mild and than say the XP?

Hey Lee.............Can I give you those Rockers back?

I am guessing with having the 1.9 Modified rockers installed, it would NOT be a wise idea to install any kinda cam? Most folks whom I have known who have gone to a cam after rockers always had the rockers removed.

If anyone want to lay some sunshine on that thought...........please do

Now oh ye of only rockers, why are you here?

What? Because you want my XP when I go VS? Accepted...paypal accepted.

Nooo...I don't want the rockers back...they're used. lol

No you can't run those rockers with anything other than the stock cam. You can run 1.7 1.8's with cams but some require head work to be able to do so.

It will work in your CompG. I'm still not 100% sure I want to change to the VS. Thats kind of what this thread was about. btw Steven, where you live it's not hilly and you don't have to deal with rush hour traffic everyday. I'm sure that would make a big difference.

Well if you do switch over to vs, you have a 100% for sure buyer plus a helping hand to help you switch over.
