Ok- now you have me back on the fence.

Why not "build it"? Because I have not wrenched on a car in about 20 years and really don't want to start with fabrication and fit. Also, these are "made" for the car, so call me what you will but I just think it is a little easier and worth the $100 bucks or so.

With that being said, here is what I have 'found':

K&N is averaging $260+ dependant on site (seen it for nearly $400 on some sites).

Wiz for series III with 4" filter is $263.

Thrasher CAI with filter is $225 ($10 bucks more for "powerstack"- not certain about getting that but it's "free" if you get it from their ebay site)

So if you are telling me it is not worth the $40 bucks for wiz, I would like to know why other than the $$. Is it performance, difficulty to install, breakdowns, etc.

blowfish has one- why did you get Wiz instead of "something else"?

As a last note- going to go back to the forum to review purchase site recommendations.

Again, thanks to all- I really appreciate the feedback and comments. After all, the world would be a very boring place if we were all the same.

i got it because at the time i had the extra $$$ and i thought it was the best intake out there. and it does do a great job of keeping the hot air out of the intake and keeping cool outside air in the box. yea it is pretty good but you could make one for far less.

another thing is the tubing, in my opion is garbage. after you pull it off a couple of times it tears up. you have to be real delicate with it. the box it self is also a little flemsy. if you go pushing on it to much it will bend out of place. from all the moving mine has done it dosent really seal up against the frame. duct tape works just fine for that.

also another reason people get the wiz is because its estetically pleasing to the eyes. it looks good under the hood.

i say the performance is great with it, just overpriced and it could be made for cheaper.

Making an intake isn't really "wrenching" on your car. It is not like you are pulling the engine and rebuilding it. You are just buying some plastic tube, cutting it, gluing it together, and attaching it to your intake with a rubber coupling with an air filter on the end.

You can do what you want, but I have used cold air intakes in the past (Thrasher and SLP) and the DIY one is just as easy to make and install, and much, much cheaper. Like I said, you can get everything you need to less than $50.
