Hey everyone, I already posted in suspension/brakes but I am pretty clueless so I wanted to put something here just in case. I ride a '97 GP GTP and basically, whenever i accelerate really hard, there is a rhythmic thudding or bumping/clunk. Its about 4 per second as far as I can tell (hard to focus on it when trying to stay in control).

I can feel it in the pedal, in general through the car faintly, and faintly in the wheel also. My friend has a theory that its a bad engine mount somewhere, but he admits he isn't positive. Trying to get some theories on it before I take it to my mech, because they always try to convince me something is going to grenade and I need to replace everything.

Any ideas or similar experiences welcome so i can tip off the mech and save buckets of cash, thanks.

    Matt

rotate your tires, see if it goes away.

while the tires are coming off, you can test the whole front end out for play.

jack the front wheel up, lug nuts tight still, then push and pull the top of the tire, if it moves, the hub is bad.

then take the wheel and push one side and then push back with the other, (left and right side) if it moves, or clicks, the tie rods are bad.

then take the wheels off, look at the lca's bushing, the sway bar bushing, and end links and look for a torn boot on the axle.

axle could be bad with out a torn boot, they do tend to vibrate when they go bad, its kinda like a double U joint.

Nice, I'll definitely try this tomorrow- too tired from all the S/C wrenching today, luckily what I did so far worked- or I would probably be asking for the location of a good volcano to ghost drive the thing into!

    thanks, Matt.
