I have a 2000 grand prix gt. top swap gen3, xp cam and all the stuff to go with it. Got it done a few months ago. Just noticed on the drive home when I took a right hand turn in my neighborhood there was a bunch of clicking/clunking. Thought it was my CV since the boot ripped the other week and all the grease came out. BUT I parked it in my driveway and still continued to click/clunk. Sound is coming from the bottom passenger side of engine. I'm trying to get a video up. WHAT CAN THIS BE?

take the belts off fire it up for a minute. if it goes away its one of the pulleys.

how about torque converter? its a slow clunk. I had it in park, clunked while idling. I reved the engine to about 2k rpm and there was no clunking. I kept it at 2k for a few seconds and no clunking. once back at idle it starts clunking. When I started the car there was a bunch of clunking then goes to slow clunking. I put it in drive and as I was going through the gears the clunking became repeatedly and louder. I also have been noticing when I punch it around 60 and once the power hits I feel and grinding feel under the car. not much for a noise. So I was thinking torque converter

What would I be looking for with taking off the timing cover?

ill step out a limb here.......sc coupler gone bad? once again take the sc belt off, turn the pulley back and fourth, like snap it, if you feel a click the coupler is bad.

There is a little play in the coupler but this is a loud clunk. I'm reading up on online and it does not sound like a spun bearing or rod knock. Watched a video on rod knock and that got louder with revving. mine does not do that. People say a spun bearing sounds like a jackhammer and louder as you accelerate.

ive heard rods knocking like mad, and more then likely main bearings squealing like a stuck pig.

take the belts off see that clears it up.

could be a broken flex plate too. but that would be heard more form the drivers side of the engine.

I took off the supercharger belt and still clunking. Not as much as earlier. The start up is rough the clunking noises. Going through the gears while sitting still makes a lot more clunking and louder. I want to take it to my tranny guy that rebuilt it like 2 years ago and see what he thinks, but I don't want to drive it. And the shop is only a mile and a half up the road from me

just got back from the tranny shop. He sounds pretty confident that the flywheel is making the noise. I'm going to take it back tomorrow morning so he can put it on the lift and find out for sure what it is.

Now that I most likely need to get in the tranny, What should I replace? What parts should I beef up?
