Oh....that's why I have put over 3000 miles on my Comp G that has a set of ported heads, XPZ cam, and a completely stock tune.

    Right on BIO!

    First off - fast/reliable/cheap

You only get to chose two of the three!

Then, you want to do a cam, CORRECTLY, it's not CHEAP!

Cam, springs, seals, retainers, chain, headers, tune! Add it all up... Plus you might want to do other things while it's all open as mentioned, heads, etc to FULLY realize the gains of changing a cam. If you don't go all the way, why go at all?

Do you push the pedal only half way to the floor?

And yes, you do need a TUNE!

I love how people think you will change the air intake, exhaust, duration of those elements, timing and not need to adjust anything in the computer that controls it all. Come on guys!

Even back in the day before commuter control when you changed a cam you needed to adjust a slew of other things...

You said that you couldn't run on a stock tune or even a canned tune, only if you are driving to your tuner.

Yet, many people have done just that. Myself included.

the NIC is the best "cam only" cam out there... It actually works ok on stock springs, but you can toss some bigger ones in for even better performance.

i really wouldnt put a cam in a car without tuning it. you're not getting a lot of the gain out of it that you should be..

Tell that to the local guy that ran a 13.4 on street tires with a VS cam and DHP 1.0 and our wonderful Nebraska air.

The last few NIC cars i have done recieved a quick jaunt on the injector table for the 42# injectors, but other than that it was stock.

most cases stock timing is best.. not many people run 110+octane anymore to justify added timing and most 93 octane setups are not going for "kill mode" timing anymore.

i was always a fan of that kinda setup anyway. get the fueling in line, leave the timing stock, and run whatever pulley you can.
