Re: why do i keep going through motors like candy?
Yes five finger I will defiantly do that also this time around . It just sucks thinking of the people that drive there completely stick car with a smaller pulley and it never does on them. Although its a ticking bomb . I wanted this car to be my daily so I could get ride of the dumb vw passat I have . Just don't feel like I can trust it much anymore . Ill keep her stock from now on till I get out of school
Re: why do i keep going through motors like candy?
And I wouldnt even worry about the KR you were seeing, sure any kr is bad, but thats not the main issue here.
KR doesnt cause spun bearings, its lack of lubraction. KR just break stuff like pistons, wrist pins and stuff like that.
Re: why do i keep going through motors like candy?
to the op,
if you caused a imbalence at the flexplate/tc, i would think you would ruin your rear main before a rod saw any harm
Re: why do i keep going through motors like candy?
Thank you five I was thinking that too . It didn't have any correlation from kr to spun bearings on my thought process . I also figured it would have spun a main bearing rather then a rod bearing as the crank would be the one flipping around if unbalanced not the rods.
I appreciate the input guys . Anyone have any other suggestions ? I am all ears
Re: why do i keep going through motors like candy?
on your "rebuilt engine" did they resize the rods/ change bolts ?
Re: why do i keep going through motors like candy?
I let them take the motor all I know is they used .1 oversized on everything after they machined them .
And I work at napa and we didn't offer the flexplates but thanks for the tip on looking on rock auto . I know the Gtp and gt flex plates will be different because that's why I had to swap them
Re: why do i keep going through motors like candy?
ahahhahaha yeah you said that i guess, whoops
Re: why do i keep going through motors like candy?
Four KR can spin bearings, go research. Utter id help ya install a replacement engine and get it fired up, but your just a tad to far east sorry.
Re: why do i keep going through motors like candy?
Is it just the sudden urge of the piston pushing back down on the crank from the kr that makes them spin the bearings? And I appreciate the offer

well when crank is coming up vs piston/rod coming down, the bearing is inbetween them,
in a sence "hammering" them, less then ideal
Re: why do i keep going through motors like candy?
Figured that but just wanted to check .
Re: why do i keep going through motors like candy?
sigh... Please stop this discussion on rod bearings from KR... I have done BRUTAL things to motors making 3x the power you guys make and i have never hurt a motor in any way. The fact a guy had a bit of KR a few times will not completely grenade a motor... sorry.
3800s are very sensitive to clean oil.. the tolerences are very tight on the crank and any amount of water in the oil will quickly kill off rod bearings. The easiest way to prevent these issues is to do a flush oil change after you run the motor for a few miles/ 20 minutes.
"priming" a motor has very little effect on wear.. while it is a nice gesture 4 seconds of an engine running with sub par oiling is not nearly as bad as running for 1000 miles with the equivalent of no oil.
Re: why do i keep going through motors like candy?
Never stated 2° blew it. KR CAN spin a bearing. No where did I state its the reason these engines BLOW.

whats a tight tolerence iyo
if this late 80's engine design had tight clearences then why are we useing 5w-30 oil
Re: why do i keep going through motors like candy?
So either I'm getting lemons or I'm not priming enough and not ensuring that their is no contaminates in the oil
Re: why do i keep going through motors like candy?
Don't get a rebuilt motor buy a junkyard one it'll likely last longer.

Just sayin'
Re: why do i keep going through motors like candy?
I'm defiantly going to try and find a motor from a jy it's just around here people think that the l67s are just gold . I figured I would be able to find one for less the 500 with less then 150k but . That's really not the case around here .
So I'm concluding I've just been getting pos motors that where hot roded a lot and porly maintained
Re: why do i keep going through motors like candy?
I got mine for 500$ shipping was another 200. 105k. was from a impala or something. If you wanna bend over and be almost certain it runs check out morad. Then ur looking at over 1k
