I changed the fuel filter. Didn't fix it. The car is almost always stalling as soon as I put it into gear (drive or reverse) now.

I'd turn P0234 off, it shouldn't be needed.
Ideally you'd follow this procedure here: Part 1 -GM 3.8L Ignition Module Test and Crank Sensor Test (3X, 18X)
If you don't have access to a scope, the article mentions how to use an LED instead.
The ICM harness had chafed, bare wires and was most likely grounding out. I replaced the harness and so far so good. No stalling. Running way smoother and the timing is cycling through all the cells properly. I still have that 3X Reference Signal DTC though.
