would i be better off taking my gen gettin it ported and run a 3.4 along with plog and tune. i already have a intake and plugs. or get a gen v and do the same support mods and what could i run then? would the cost outweigh the gains?

Gen V is still better and more efficient than a ported Gen 3. Pulley size on Gen 3 to Gen V do differ . A Gen V with a 3.4 will require headers, colder plugs, CAI and Tune

the lowest is 3.4 on a Gen V anything lower will require cam , inter cooler and other bigger mods which could be found on the safely mpdding thread posted by "blue"

yes you could do that, I personally like the Gen V better (cooler engine bay and more"whine"). I have a ported gen 3 on my gtp right now (reptile ported) . I used to have a 05 CompG with the Gen V and all supporting mods with a 3.4 and I miss the cool engine bay and the "whine" from it.

Huge difference, and the Gen 3 runs super hot you could barely touch it without getting burn where as the Gen V is cool all the time.

would the gains be the same for a gen 3 3.4 and gen v 3.6 or would there be a advantage to the gen v due to it being more efficient

More efficient = less heat and less potential knock.

Ummm headers, intake, colder plugs and tune would get you a 3.4 on a gen 3 and a 3.6 on a gen v

a 3.2 with plog, intake, tune, plugs on a ported Gen 3?

No, 3.4 at the lowest IMO.

    Get headers.

3.4 = More boost but more heat OR

3.5 = More timing, less heat but less boost.

    Pick your poison.

And as for the Gen V, you could run a 3.6 on a Gen V and that would roughly equal a 3.4 on a Gen III but the Gen V will be more efficient. Gen V > Gen III

its 6 bolts per head, then break the bolts off the cat to res, and take the cross over off, the egr off, then re install the headers. cant be that hard at all.

bills got a good how to listed.
