I have a 2000 GTP that I bought new in 1999. It has 160k miles on it. Lately while driving the RPM gage drops to zero while driving and the engine sputters a bit but continues to run. No big deal until it happened when slowing down at a light and the car stalled out. It's also been taking extra revs to start the car than usual.

Is this a computer problem? Should I just replace it?

    Thanks for the help.

Most likely the crank position sensor. They tend to fail as they get old and can cause it to randomly stall.

Sounds like it could be the crank position sensor to me.

Ill add in a third and agree its a crankshaft position sensor. About $30 - 40 for the sensor. There is a write up in the How To section on how to replace it.

    X5

Be thankful its showing you something like this as your driving. Tough to figure it out unless the tach. acts up and spits and spudders as you drive. Gets any worse, and it will start stalling on you.

I replaced mine and the GF's and another locals with a replacement from O'Reillys. They work just fine. Getting them installed was not fun my first one, but have it down to a 15 minute replacement job now.

Need tips or advice on getting it done yourself let me know.
