so I took my car to the salvage yard earlier today in my 98 gtp it was running fine with no problems a little bit after I got back I went out to clean it up and started it to use the heat and it started making a rattling slash ticking noise so I pulled the belt from the supercharger because it sounded like it was from the supercharger it's still making the noise it sounds like it's coming from around the supercharger or the front valve cover I can think of what it could be what is starting that sudden

Check for loose spark plug or bad plug wire, they can tick loud at idle and smooth out under acceloration. If both of those turn out ok, it could be a lifter...

Mechanics stethoscopes help out A LOT finding odd noises.

it might be a lifter because it was actually making a slight ticking noise the would go away at higher rpm's a couple weeks ago and I put motor honey in the oil and it got quieter so I don't know if its the same noise that came back or what. Is it possible that a lifter could have been loose and the motor honey cushioned the lifter and it just loosened more or could it be more serious.

A loose lifter = bad cam lobe or bad push rod... Definitely worth looking into.

Well, lifters don't usually go "loose" bad maybe, but not loose. If you have just a lifter tap with no other problems then just plan to change the lifters...

From the drivers side it could be the flex plate.

How do you know it's not a lifter? Take a video of it.

if this ticking is only after the cars been off for a while, then you start it up and hear a loud ticking, that goes away with in 2 minutes or less. its a lifter. and it sadly, normal and GM says its fine. change your oil see if it stops doing it.

if i let my oil change go more then 4,000 miles i get the lifter tick, change the oil, and it stops.
