Hey guys im looking into doing a decent build over the winter and im jus a lil lost on all the decisions i have to make and want some input from everyone. The current setup is a zzp ported m90&lim, wizaird cai, zzp full size i/c, s/d headers with STOCK straight pipe to magnaflows, moded 1.9 rockers with l72 springs, solid mounts and self tuned.
I'm wanting to get a good cam/head setup with e85 and see if i can get up somewhere around 400hp. Ive seen the intense stage 3 package and the dyno numbers it put out but ive also seen the xpz cam had some pretty impressive numbers too, so im completley lost on what setup i would like. So if anyone has some input on good working/ bad working setups would be appreciated
Also is the stock bottom end good enough to handle that much hp, will a stock timing chain setup be good enough or do i need a double with balance shaft delete n all, and is there any other supporting mods(other than larger tb) that you can think of that i would need to get to my goal #'s. I havent ever really thought of going this far with it which is why i seem a little clueless i guess but all help is appreciated. Thanks guys

From what I have read the xpz cam is really easy to blow up your car if you don't tune it right. And I am pretty sure with either of those cams you need a double roller. Stock bottom end will hold to whatever you throw at, I thought someone said that zzp used a stock bottom end in there TTGT. Just heads cam and stuff. At that point I would also upgrade fuel injectors.

So what's your plans as far as the tranny is concerned? Puttin down 400hp is only going to make it a ticking time bomb...maybe invest your money there first before you go with such a large cam/head combo.

trans im going to talk to triple edge performance and hopefully have them help me build a rebuild kit for the car(im a gm tech and am going to have our trans guy help me rebuild it too) but still prolly send them the valve body.
just curious but why do you say only 310 with e85+the cam and heads+current mods? what else would i need to have/do to get up to the 380-400 range?

400 at the crank? or 400whp? if its WHP its pretty hard to reach with a s/c build i have so many more parts that have been waiting to go on my car practically same setup you are trying to do as well XPZ though, spent a lot of money and taken a lot of time to collect and still not installed but sitting in my room just waiting for the cash to get a good tranny.
Realisticly i would have to say 340-350-whp hitting the 400 mark isnt easy. All though my goal is also 400whp or very close to it if not past it.

yea im lookin for whp on all of it. i guess realistically im lookin for 350-380 but hopin for 400. ive been saving a long time to do this build and i jus got enough to do the engine part of it and needless to say god loved me or somthing and had some dumb chick side swipe my dd and cause about 1400 in damage.....so needless to say the tranny is paid for now thanks to her cuz idc bout my dd (still runs and drives fine so why would i care lol) but ima do a rebuild kit from triple edge to save some dough. im jus hoping off the build im talking that i should be in that range.
and also jus because i havent looked that hard what kind of times are people running with builds like this? does anyone know or am i jus gunna have to see when im done? lol

to make 400whp you need a turbo. to do it with an M90 it will cost twice as much lol

These are the top 5 HP numbers people have gotten out of the M90 on this cam. It's not as easy as it looks though, realisticly, you will probably make 50-70whp less than what these guys pulled off.

    ZZP's Comp Cam XPZ grind:
    1. Zooomer w/ 464WHP (I/C, G5 m-90, ZZP Alum Heads, 10.5:1) [STD / Mustang Dyno]
    2. Scott Kleis w/ 425WHP (I/C, G5 m-90, ZZP Alum Heads, 9:5:1) [STD]
    3. Fred Cakanic w/ 421WHP (I/C, G5 m-90, ZZP S3 Heads, 9.5:1) [STD]
    4. ALancour w/ 400WHP (I/C, G5 m-90, ZZP Alum Heads 10:1) [SAE / Mustang Dyno]
    5. House w/ 393WHP (non-I/C, G5 m-90, ZZP S4 Alum Heads, 1.7 rockers)

Honestly, if you are going for WHP you should really be looking at turbo.

The other problem with a 400whp XPZ grand prix, the drivability suffers, your powerband will be shifted so high that the car will be a pooch anywhere but WOT. At that point, 400whp on a fwd grand prix is kinda useless. You have to realize that the car is not going to drive around like it used to. There are a lot of people that go "all out" only to demod or sell it weeks later.

If you can put the power to the ground and lose some weight, low 11's are possible. With something like a S1X cam or XP, low 12's are possible.

LOW 12's is what my goal is honestly. I would like to be able to street drive it a little bit too(not a dd by any means but maybe a lil night cruiz downtown to pick on some people lol) so i guess my question shoulda been what do i need to pull off a LOW 12 second m90 that i can cruiz a lil bit in? is the is3 cam more than i really need or?
i havent hit a 1/4 mile yet with my current setup but the ONE time i hooked at the 1/8 i was at a 8.80 with a passenger

also j/w but is there a cheaper way to go turbo aside from the simple zzpkit?(havent looked much into a turbo) cuz im figuring $3500ish (not including trans) to do the engine build, and honestly a turbo low 12's-11's would be much nicer lol but idk

What turbo would you look for though? You wouldn't want like a vw baby one would you.

Look at turbo manufacturers websites. Like turbonetics.

They should have the information on sizing a turbo.
