    How important is it to flush out dexcool? Why does it matter if you use any other coolant, why cant you just use dexcool and keep it that way?

    A shop told me around 500 dollars for a LIM gasket and coolant elbows job, does that seem good?

    Aaannd the supercharger oil. How can i tell if it needs changing or not? And how important is it to get changed? What happens if you never change it EVER!? (Not that i will.)

    dex coolant is fine if you keep it full, air in the system makes it sludge up. so swapping to green or yellow is a good idea. but do a full flush of the coolant, then swap over, mixing is not good, cause more sludge.

    500 aint to bad for a lim job.

    how many miles do you have? sc oil can be found at the dealer, or on line, use only gm sc oil. you need 2, 4 oz bottles.

    and check your coupler out for slop, change if needed, then add new oil.

    Im on like 128100 or so.
    And yeah, I thought it would be like 900. So I planned on doing it myself. But after hearing 500, I might just let them do it.
    Does air in the system make normal coolant sludge up?

    And what exactly is the coupler haha.. I keep hearing it but don't exactly know what it is or where.

    Replacing a worn out supercharger coupler on 3.8 GM engines - YouTube coupler fix.

    no green or yellow wount sludge up like dex can.

    you could do it yourself for a $100 with including buying a socket set if needed. less if not needed.

    Every time I have questions about something I just type google.com, grand prix..... ? then gpf.com pops up, its the best way to get the answer to anything related grand prix . Any questions about these type of car has been covered multiple times this is the reason why many knowledgeable individuals like ^^^ get irritated . FYI lim gasket replacement is not hard and it will save you $500 . I did it in a day there is a lim gasket video that shows exactly how to do it just follow the steps mentioned .

    I dont think i would be able to get all the parts free and save 500 dollars. Id save liike, 300? 350? Still good, But I figure it would be better having a shop do it so if anything goes wrong I can have them fix it, because i've heard things go wrong after people replace these things. But ill need to look further into it I suppose.

    all the parts, and a 30 piece socket set, 100 or less. you save 400 or more.

    this does not include a coupler or sc oil.

    odd, but chances are your engine is L67 lol

    go to advanced autos web site, order there, pick it up at the local store, enter price code coupon for more off.

    make sure you get the metal intake gaskets,(lim gasket) not the black plastic ones.

    I would be saving 360 dollars. He said it would be 4 and a half hours for labor and labor is 80 an hour... Hmmm.

    i just looked up my car at autozones web site.

    54 for the lim gasket

    10 for a sc gasket

    6 for the elbows

    10 for a box of assorted O rings at harbor freight, to change the injector o rings.

    12 or so for a gallon of straight antifreeze.

    = 92. plus tax.

    this can be found cheaper with a cheaper lim gasket. should be around 45. the one i found was the only metal one listed @ 54.


    and a oil change and filter should be done after this job is completed.


    still less then 167 or 190. even with a the oil and filter.

    oh and your mechanic pays 20% less then you do for parts, then they charge you full blown list price. so they make money off the parts, as well as the labor.

    Interesting. But after watching the video im not sure I'd want to be doing it now... It seems a lot more complicated than i first thought. I could take it apart but I definitely don't think I know an engine well enough to put that kind of stuff back together.. unless there is a more in depth video going around, but I watched the 33 minute one that is widely known. :S

    its not a big deal really, the parts all lay on top of each other. looks worse then it really is.

    take lots of pics, bag and label your bolts, it can be done.
